( Do you have the throttle 'up' when the engine stalls? What RPM's are you normally running at? Are you using any type of diesel additive in the fuel to prevent gelling during the winter months? )
good points Don, using the loader in heavy, wet snow, will require a higher RPM than other tasks. Gelling is a major problem if you're using summer blended fuel. Check your fuel and see if it looks waxy and thick. If so, you'll need to treat it, and clean the fuel filter out good and replace it. The pour point will cause it to run poorly, and will clog up the filter. Of course, you mentioned it was "sluggish" in the summer, so I'm not sure what the problem is. John

I don't own one, but I have moved a little snow with a ck30 hst. Every time I ran out of traction before it would stall. Heavy wet snow, as people have said, RPMs would need to up, and let off the pedal if it starts to bog.

IMO, no way it should be stalling when doing FEL work, unless you are running low rpms.

I keep the throttle at about 2000 to 2100rpms and I always have my foot on the clutch to ease the strain on the motor when that happens but stalls before I get a chance to push it in. I don't have any additive in my fuel - what do you suggest or what should I ask for ? Does Walmart or Canadian Tire sell it. Thanks

Kevin, since you are in Canada, I would strongly suspect the fuel suppliers are providing winter blend fuel. IF your fuel was purchased anytime after December 1, it is very likely that your fuel is winter blend. As for after market products, you can find a diesel "anti-gel" at Wal Mart or any truck stop that sells diesel fuel. I prefer using anti-gels over multi-purpose conditioners. Diesel gelling only becomes an issue at low temperatures. We find with our fleet of trucks that we treat the fuel when the temperatures get below 20 degrees F. But the serious issues don't begin until the air temp drops down to closer to Zero F. If you have gelling issues they will be easy to find, simply check your fuel filter, it will look like you have wax in the filter.

However, based on your description of things, I strongly suspect the issue is not a fuel issue. Gelling will stall your engine and prevent a restart. Load issues have nothing to do with gelling. As you are stalling under load, I would look at boosting the RPMs up to the upper operating range of the tractors engine.

A commonly used anti gelling fuel conditioner used in the USA is call 'PowerService'. A 96 ounce bottle treats 300 gallon. It's the white bottle version listed at their web site.

I would think Canadian Tire would carry PowerService or something similar. If not Walmart, Tractor Supply Co., truck stops....

Kevin,

Not sure what you are saying here when you say you are trying to shove the clutch in before it stalls. If I understand, on an HST the clutch is only used for the PTO isn't it? If the tractor is lugging down, if you let off the treddle pedal the pump should unload and not stall, I didn't think that the hydraulics would load up that fast that you couldn't remove your foot from the pedal before it would stall. I have only test driven a few different models of tractors and have never been able to stall one, including the CK20HST. Are you really working the FEL hard in conjuction with trying to move forward when it stalls? Is it doing the same thing with the thottle full up? We'll get to the bottom of this sooner or later. Hope you don't mind all the questions, just trying to understand what is happening. We've only got a few more hours to solve this before we got to go plow tonight, we've got about 6" so far and it's still coming down at a pretty good rate.

Thanks for the info guys.
Steve - probably just a habit with the clutch, me thinking when i push in the clutch it appears to take the strain off of everything and I usually take my foot off the accelerator at the same time. But if you look (first attachment) at the slight incline in my driveway i tried to plow (in medium range) about 2 or 3 inches of snow & slush up hill and only got about 5 feet, no power beyond that. Is that normal for an HST ?
any input would be appreciated. Thanks

When you begin running out of power are you easing up on the hydro peddle ?
Does cranking up the RPM's/ throttle to full power and easing up on the hydro peddle when you begin loosing power help?

Vince,
I didn't crank up the rpm's at the time. What would be considered 'full throttle' at a safe level for a ck25. Thanks

This defiantly sounds like a driving habit, Run your tractor at wide open throttle and govern your speed by how far you push the hst pedal.
Keep in my when your tractor starts to run out of power ease up on the hst pedal just a bit and recover the lost rpms
