Once the brake pedals are separated, only one pedal disengages the cruise control. It is not a clutch but a mechanical linkage of sorts that pops the cruise control lever loose. There by stopping the tractor if you hit the brakes. When I drive it tomorrow I will test if is the left or right side brake that disengages the cruise. You can still lock the pedals together still. I'll also see if I can see the limkage that disengages the cruise.

BTW...the CT230 is great. Never complains about anything I give it.

The left brake pedal is connected to the cruise control, so when in cruise if you push on left brake with pedals disconnected the left will shut off cruise contorl. Right side would work as a steering brake. I have found that working in 4wd, the difference in turning radius is very marginal using steering brake or without if there is sufficient weight on fornt axles to let the front wheel drive power you through the turn.

My thanks to both of you regarding brake steering with cruise control. Currently using an underpowered Kubota 18hp with 5' Woods bush hog. The steering brakes really are useful with that tractor. Maybe we should look at the Kubotas instead, but we really liked the stoutness of the Bobcat.

Besides being underpowered, the only problem we've had with the Kubota in 10 years is a gasket leak on the front of the block.

I had a 19 hp Kubota before I got the CT225 this spring, ran a 4' bush hog on it. It had the power to cut anything I wanted but it was had to turn around unless I raised the cutter off the gound. Tractor did not weigh enough to handle weight of the cutter when trying to swing it around making a turn. The Bobcat tractors weigh more than most like sized competor models, this extra weight is definite plus in bush hog application. It helps keep the front wheels firmly on the ground so they can do their job is 4wd to pull the front of the tractor around when turning. Brakes are usually not needed to assist unless you are turning sharper than turning radius of the tractor.

2nd that! These CT2xx are immensely heavy. Over 3000lbs! That counts when you want to plow, more so than HP. I almost fell off the couch the first time I saw the specs.

Careful with that ROPs! Mine hits the top of the garage. :cool:
