The road between the walls is probably only 150' long. I'm not sure where it went but I think it once (1700's) was part of a path down to a dam on a small lake. My property abuts 8000 acres owned by Yale University for it's forestry school and much of that was once part of what I have. It was a small community of houses (mansions) along with a working farm and other occupations to support the area. Pretty much self contained. When I bought the peoperty, the mansions were long gone (people tell me they were lost to lighting fires due to the fact that we a at the top of a low hill). The cow farm complete with shoe making back room was still there. That building and adjoining barn were lost to arson. Much of the property is littered with chunks of cut granite used to build various things. One of the things that facinates me the most is the several wells which are still full of crystal clear water. they are about 3' in diameter, going down about 20 to 25 feet and they are lined with perfectly piled small stone. I am in the process of opening up and then removing the loam from about 1800 feet of dam road to make it a driveway to a new house that I hope to build down by the lake later this year. I've owned the property for 18 years and been planning a house all that time. I hope I can finally get it in. For now I have a small trailer I stay in sometime and I board a few horses.
