I've got a question. Do you put any spacer between the blades?

No spacer, just make sure the contact area is clean.
You can position the blades at 90deg to each other but they will not stay there which is not an issue.
Do not attempt to weld the blades as this will weaken them.

When using the (bush hog) for heavy cutting of trees & other unknown objects ensure there are no people or pets in the vicinity, I have had blades break, one of which punched a hole through the side of my mower and disappear forever!.

90cummins, that is scary! I don't want to know the damage a flying rotary blade can cause.

Update as to the finish mower: I dismantled it to paint it and lube it up, then went to give it a quick test and the shaft is too short! Apparently the old owner cut it, so I'm going to have to weld an extension onto it. That shouldn't be too hard, I just have to get over to the metal shop to do it.

On a good note, the blades are in fine shape and, with the new paint job, it is looking all nice.

I've also had a chance to use the rotary cutter, and that thing is great! I cleared out quite a bit of my woods with it. It cut through down branches nicely, but got hung up on some 2-3" stuff, even the rotten ones. It runs through brush wonderfully, though. I can now see more than 10 feet into the woods, hehe! It also worked well to clear out where the fence is going, something I wasn't keen on doing by hand. It has been 95-100F this week, so moving the downed trees out of the way to do more clearing has been killer. I'm not a water drinker, but this week I have been!

I also gave my boom pole a nice matching paint job, seeing as I was feeling ambitious :)

At some point I have to take the bend out of the boom pole, as I sold a loader I was considering putting on the 336, but decided not to, so I loaded it using my boom pole and it was.. slightly over the weight limit.. by at least double. Only a slight bend, but still not exactly awesome ;)

Anyhow, though I would give an update. I cvan see why so many here have a big list of implements for their tractor.. these things are **** fun to play with!

Maybe the previous owner shortened the mower driveline to add slip clutch. If you add one you might get back to the length you need. Or use a $20 F-to-M PTO shaft extension on the tractor. Tractor Supply (and most tractor parts counters) sell both.

I'm glad to see you are enjoying that thing now.

Great toys, aren't they! :D

i just bought a yanmar fm1700 (Japanese) with a 3 speed PTO. What speed is recommended or the best to run a brush hog or a finishing mower? Will the tractor handle a 5 foot brush hog or should I stick with a 4 foot? I would appreciate any info.

Assuming you meant YM1700. It would be much better suited to the 4 footer. 1st range on the pto. Most all American sold 3 point mowers are designed for 540rpm. If you have only light mowing you could use a 5 footer. I use an old 5' FMC sidewinder rotary mower with my 2002d. It is really to heavy for it so I am very careful with it when transporting and can certainly overload it in thick tall bahia grass. I also use a Woods rd60 finish mower. Weight wise it is ok. Used as it was designed I have plenty of power for it. Finish mowers are meant to be what the name implies, finish mowers.
