My first Property Line Fence Issue...

/ My first Property Line Fence Issue... #101
Funny story. Girlfriend and I were engaged (6 years of dating). Decided to buy a house together in May. I'd live there until we got married in September, then she'd move in (yes, we were old-fashioned). I'd never lived anywhere but my parents' house before this. So I take some clothes and a sleeping bag and camp out on a set of box springs first night, a Sunday. I'm laying there in my gym shorts Monday morning, first time in a house of my own, sound asleep and BOOM! I hear a muffled explosion off in the distance! What the %^&&!! I'm laying there wondering what that was. About 30 seconds later BOOM!!! Another explosion and it sounds closer! Then I hear sirens! YIKES! What's going on? I jump out of bed and run to the front door and hear another explosion right outside! I whip open the door, and there's about a hundred people standing on my lawn! A parade is going by my front door. Fire trucks. Police cars. And a civil defense van with a cannon in the back BOOM!!!! every block! And all these people turn around and look at me standing in the door in my gym shorts!

So I slam the door and turn on the sprinklers!

No I didn't.

I slam the door and call my future wife and tell her there's a parade in front of our house! She says Oh yeah. That's the Polish parade. I ask her if this is a weekly thing or what? She says it's Memorial Day, you idiot! ;)

Turns out there's a Memorial Day west side parade on that street every year. I'd never heard of it and I've lived in that town for 24 years. Never knew about it because it's on the west side and I lived on the north side, I guess. Anyhow, future wife says they'll be right over, and she and her parents show up about 10 minutes later and we watched the rest of the parade, which is surprisingly long and took a good hour plus to go by. 4-5 high school bands. A bunch of little leagues. The Shriners go-cart drill team. Marion County Police mortorcyle team. Wow! That was fun.

So every year after that we'd have a parade party, brunch and friends and family. Great little old neighborhood.

I hope you make yourself presentable now...no more gym shorts.

Moss your comments on the parade reminded me of when I was young. June was always declared dairy month and we would have the dairy parade in Stanford. Now you could use one hand to count the dairies in the county and have fingers left over. Times change

I wear gym shorts most days in warmer weather... stop by and that is what you get, parade or not.

I wear shorts around the property, probably too short for modern standards. Don't see that wearing a pair of pants with six inches cut off is of any use, or makes sense to keep cool. And I can't stand the heat. Good thing thrift stores exist.

As for the property issue. What do you expect when they build so close and every foot matters? It's pretty much the same in any urban area nowadays.
