So....today I loaded up my JD790 and took it to the local Co-op for fluid in the tires. I previously had them order tubes for my tires, as they are pretty small. Now, this is a pretty sizable Co-Op with many employees a big tire shop, and allot of on-farm tire service, etc. But, they had a devil of a time putting fluid in those tubes. Ended up cutting one tube out as it would not fill and then cut the OEM (firestone) valve stems out and glued in replacement stems....which then readily took the fluid (cal chloride).

I had expected to be out of there in an hour....but, this project took over 6 man hours to complete. (3 guys worked on it at times). They charged me $111. including the tubes, so I cant complain about the price......but I never understood why those valve stems wouldn't take fluid.....and never got a good explanation. Anybody know?

OH...and they gave me a pair of work gloves and a Firestone cap, cause I had to wait. (grin)

How big was the hole in the valve stem? That would be the only thing I could think of that would prevent the fluid from going in.

They cut out what appeared to be a normal, rubber valve stem....and replaced it with a glued-on rubber-to-metal stem. The guy wasn't much of a talker....but he was miffed at himself for not buying a different type of tube (with metal stems). I just don't get how this could make a difference.

Well I had the opposite problem. I went to put some air in my tractor tires and fluid came gushing out and wouldn't stop. I did not know that the dealer had put calcium in the tires (I am NOT happy). In less than a year, the calcium destroyed the valve.

As soon as I get some time, I hauling the tractor some place else to get the d*&^ calcium out and put Rimguard in.

I am not happy with the dealer because 1) he didn't tell me that they'd put it in and 2) that made the tractor way overweight on my trailer since it added another 1100# which I didn't know about.
