There should be a cotter pin holding the tie rod end to the knuckle, you will need to torque the nut farther to reinstall the cotter pin, if you put a piece of metal in there(be sure to put the cotter pin back in).

But I'll be surprised if you actually have the clearance to mount the lights there. Turn the wheels hard right, then hard left to check clearances before installation.

Good ideas for more lighting. Bruce, I think that you should use something more substantial than sheetmetal, unless you box in the sheetmetal on at least one side, a flickering light is worse than no light. I would also have them separate (switch/ inline fuse) from the headlights and power them from the battery.

Hi Don & Henry,

The lights on the tie rods was one of my time off between Christmas and New Years projects and it was cold and rainy in SoCal. I know 40's and low 50's might seem pretty warm for a lot of you but if I need to wear long pants it is cold for me. So hopefully I will get them installed before my wife kicks the tractor out of the garage.

Don - I think you will be correct about the clearance if I try to mount the lights above the tie rod nut but I am hoping I can go below.

Henry - I had not given any thought about flicker and you are absolutely right a flickering light is worse than no light. I am still going to give them a try on the tie rod ends if there is clearance. The primary usage will be when I put the tractor under the house so flicker should not be a problem.

I am also hoping to change the headlights to LED's and the tail lights too. I am going to order some of the cheap ones on ebay from China.

I am going back to work now so I am writing this from 37,000 feet above North Texas.
