We had a 6way and an 8 way on the processor at work. I hated those wedges. They might work for some especially on those fancy european models but I found them more cantankerous than anything else. I'd take the 4 way any day especially with a mismatched output our processor seemed to have. As the processor was "rustled up" by the owners son, I also hated the processor. Thankfully it was more at the end of my career so i did not have to deal with it for long.

Yes I am going to hydraulically control the highth of the wedge,I would like some pics of other wedges that are hydraulically consoled to give me some ideas

you can see in my second pic how i raise and lower the wedge. that wedge is 24in tall at full extend. The cyl is actually a steering cyl off a old forklift. maybe 2in bore and 6in stroke.

I'm trying to find a picture of our wedge design and can't seem to find one, just renderings.

In this video you can kind of see what we did from about the 40 second point. At around 2:00 the operator adjusts the wedge up.

You planning on using the crane to load logs, or is it for another project all together?

Yes Wild Bill at some point I am going to put a hi bob (log loader) on the machine. I brought the hiab home to strip and use the hoses and any other parts I can, but it's in such good condition I'm having trouble bringing myself to destroy it.
I may have to come up with another project or sell it

This is what I've done in the last couple days, put inserts in for the splitter wedge, I put two of them in so I can move wedge in future if needed, welded on the hold downs for the splitter slide, mounted saw arm and cylinder and put blade on just to take some measurements
For some reason I can't upload pictures tonite. I'll try again later
