Hi Paul,
The "U" shaped swivel for the top link helps for the up/down movement... but only the design and strength of the A-frame help the side/side movement...
Cutting a field of grass is no problem... the A-frame would probably last forever...
However, cutting brush and moving through the brush is where the A-frame really takes a beating (hours upons hours of twisting and turning... you don't realize how tough this brush can be over time)... you have to remember the 3-point rotary cutter is "just long extension" of the tractor... driving through the thick & nasty brush and turning puts the stresses and strain on the rear coupled area... notice how thick the tractor's lift arms are (mine happen to be CAT II)... they don't flex like the steel in the A-frame does...
Again, it boils down to distortion/fatigue of the weakest link... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
