More details would be helpful. My first guess would be plugged fuel filter.

Possibly plugged filter as mentioned. Or air in the lines.

What made you think gas was put in it

Exhaust smoking could be gasoline mixed in with diesel. Had an employee do that to one of my diesel trucks once. It ran, but made prodigious amounts of white smoke and the engine didn't sound real good either. Drained it all.

it happened once before this tractor is used at a campground by 4 different guys, they call me when there is an issue. the message was tractor lost power my first thing was to check fuel for abnormal smell and I smelt gas so I drained the tank and changed the oil then put fresh fuel in tank tractor wants to start but will not. if I turn key back to heat glow plugs it starts then stalls

There is alot of fuel still left in the system that draining the tank likely didnt remove

may have put gas with water in it,change fuel filter then bleed air out. pure gas wouldn't cause low power it will make a diesel scream and it aint good for one

Not sure that's true.
If I remember right we had a member a while back that lost power.
He had put gas in his fuel tank.
