My kubota zd321 will not start, sometimes it will for no obvious reason.

Hello, I need help. I have a kubota zd321 zero turn mower. Half the time we go to start it, it will fire up fine. Half the time we get nothing. I have checked all safety switches with a meter and they are good to go. I am stumped however I have a hunch about two things was hoping someone could maybe help me. When I turn the key to start the mower, after letting it do it's warm up, it will start immediately sometimes and other times it will have to be held for seconds before it turns over. Worst yet I cannot get the cover off too get a meter on the switch. I got a new battery too btw. Also there is always this clicking that I hear when I shut it off I'm not exactly sure what that is but sometimes it will not click and I think that might be a issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

That clicking is the fuel stop solenoid. When you turn the key on you should hear a click. This the solenoid pushing the fuel control lever open. The delayed click you hear after shut down is the solenoid retracting.

The fuel stop solenoid will be on top of the engine, a small round (about 2-3" in diameter) gold colored canister with rubber on it's base and wiring. Open your hood then turn the key on (do not start). You should be able to see the solenoid activate. If it does not move, you can manually push the lever open and it should start when you turn the key fully on. If this is the case, you will need to replace the solenoid, a very easy job- about 5 minutes.
