Looking on CL the other day and saw an ad for a boom pole and a set of 3pt mounted forks so I went and looked at them after I got off work that afternoon. As it turns out, they are both home made, but made from heavy materials and welded together pretty good. No paint anywhere, so they are both a nice rusty color. The 3pt boom pole is the hinged design, and the boom is slightly bent to one side, like it was pulling dragging something while the tractor was turning, or maybe he just hit a tree and bent it? It won't affect using it, though.
The 3pt forks are mounted to "T" post made of steel tubing. The forks themselves have a piece of tubing welded on top that slides onto the T post¸ so you can adjust the width setting of the forks. These things are pretty heavy, and the forks are made from solid 1"x4" steel, and the tubing is heavy wall, so they should handle just about anything you need to pick up. It would be very easy to build a 3'x5' wooden box with some brackets on the bottom that the forks slide into and it could double up as a 3pt carry all, like some other forum members here have done.
To be honest, I didn't really need either one as I already have a boom pole, and a set of clamp on forks for the bucket, but the price was so good I hated to pass it up. So, I loaded them both up and headed to the house $80 lighter!! My plan is to clean them up a bit, throw a coat of paint (black?) on them, and then set them out by the road and re-sell them for a modest profit. I think I will start the boom pole at $80, and the 3pt forks at $150. I think I will do ok on this deal. (Foggy, you can call me Mr. Haney again, I don't care... as long as I make a few dollars from it)!!
