After researching and reading the reviews on this board, on July 29, 2004 I purchased a Mahindra 3510 ser. no. 3510 X03 0171, from Jock's Farm Equipment in Brushton, NY., for $16,200 w/FEL. I also ordered a United Box blade 5' for $590 and a 3265 Backhoe for $6100 installed. Plus taxes. I was offered $500-$600 on a trade on my '41 Farmall H and I declined, I thought it would make a great lawn ornament.
Before I purchased the tractor I specifically asked if there were any know field problems with this machine, the answer was no, and that it was quite rugged. I was also quoted $4000 early on for the backhoe, but Dennis Jock(the owner) persuaded me to go for the better Mahindra backhoe, because it had a separate hydraulic pump and was made for the machine.
Last week at 29 hours I hit something underneath and bent the elbow for the hydraulic system and lost all fluids. This elbow is mounted quite low and is in a very vulnerable place. They said they "may" warrantee the part. I was willing to pay for it and eventually did, but then they told me they had seen similar problems before and this was a design problem. I asked if Mahindra made a skid plate for this, they said no, but I could weld a plate across the frame. Nice! No access to anything. Their only viable solution was that I not drive the tractor anywhere I couldn't see.
When I told Dennis Jock that this tractor was too fragile for anything, he told me that "like he had told others", that if I had wanted something good that I should have bought a Kubota or a Deere, and that Mahindra just wanted to "dump" tractors. Why didn't he tell me in this in the beginning?
This week I had my backhoe installed.
It didn't come with the external pump which he told me it would several times and in front of my wife two weeks previous. Also the left outrigger arm was flopping around about four inches and was denting the ram and the frame on one side is one inch lower than the other. My wife went to Jock's to complain about this and he said he would stop by and that he had decided not to get the external pump on the backhoe because it was an extra $600 and that the rear pump was the same and would do the job.
When he came over he fiddled with the problem, bleeding try to adjust it etc., etc., he told me to get bungee cords to hold it in place. He told me everything made in the US is junk, it is made by Bradco. Well if this was the good one? Also, you need two people to operate it. One at the controls and another to hold the hydraulic lever in place. I asked him about this he said, you need some bungee cords to hold it on. Great! I should have invested in bungee cord stock.
I also asked him about the external pump. He lied right to my face, he said he had called me about it and that I didn't want to spend the extra $600. I had only talked to the man once on the phone and that was when my tractor was first ready.
I made my decision to buy this tractor mainly out of convenience and to support a local business, in that Jock's is only about one mile from my house.
I am afraid to use it and have no confidence in Jock's.
I have put about 40 hours on the old "H" this week and the Mahindra is now a lawn ornament.
