tried plugging to outlet on house GFI, still shocking me, not the fence. did note that the new ground rods are 'ticking", so replaced the ground wire. still shocking the siding but the fencer is now in the yellow/green rather than red. no neighbors for miles, so that's not the problem. thinking we'll try moving the ground rods farther away from the building, replacing the ground cables, try again. this is the worst time i've ever had with a fence, and i've used fencers for decades without issues. fencer is mounted on a wood panel, isolated from the masonary interior of the building. the metal siding is mounted on wood lathe (and the building is insulated on the exterior now), so there's no real connection between the fencer and the side of the building. keep the suggestions coming, i'll keep trying them. did try the piece of short cable not connected to anything, still shocking the siding.

This is bizarre. Does the siding shock you in synch with the 'ticking' of the fence charge? Or is it all the time?

Process of elimination is all I can think of. Maybe I missed it, but if you unplug the fence charger does it stop?

Do you have a good ground bonded between building metal and panel?
have you ohm'd between the fencer ground and your rod(s) to assure good continuity?
Try slowly pouring a gallon of salt water around the rods, to increase continuity between the rod and earth, and maybe adding more rods as needed to increase contact area.

I'll bet that at some place, the siding is "grounded" Check your utility/power line ground connection.

Does the fence charger have a 2 or 3 wire plug? If three wire, try one of the 3 to 2 cheaters to temporarily remove the ground through the charger to the 110 ground.

Is your fence ground tied into the power line ground? It should not be.

Ken

p.s. - have you tried a different fence charger? Could yours have become defective?

ALLRIGHTY!! Sucess. We put in more grounding rods, away from the building (which was therefore further from the grounding rod's for the building's load center), used new cables and taa daa. We have a good fence, and the siding on the building isn't zapping us anymore.

So not certain what exactly the problem was, but the extra grounding, away from the building, did the trick.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, we used alot of them!
