My mind\'s in the gutter.....

I'm just starting to take bids on 3200 Ln. Ft. of "Decorative continuous curbing" here at work. (Surrounding a couple landscape areas adjoining a parking lot)

Any words of wisdom from someone with prior experience?

"Best guess" price per foot that I should expect with the bids???????? (Due back by next tues)

We're going with a plain, 6" X 6" light grey colored concrete. It will have a 12" wide, X 10" deep footer under it. wire re-enforcing....

This is a "learning experience" that will carry over to a project I'm considering at my home.

At the house last year I was given a ball park price of $10 per foot. The price was for a 6" by 6" tapered curb that would go around the planter beds, there was no footer under it.

I'd be real curious to see what you come up with because I'd like to do it but didn't want to spend that amount of money!

I thought most concrete eventually cured to a light grey. If they are charging you extra for the grey, you might ask why. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

1.) No additional charge for color.

2.) This is a darker grey than natural concrete. It matches a paint color trimming our building.

Personally, I prefer granite or cobblestones. They hold up better to being hit by plows in the winter and don't deteriorate from the salt that is used in parking lots. Don't know the cost factor, but at $10 per foot, I would think that it should be competitive. If concrete was a good solution for curbing you would see it used more on city streets. Things might be different in your part of the country, than here in the East...... I just got a price of $2.00 per cobblestone, picked up...

I'm not sure of all the particulars involved in your project but if you get an outfit using one these curbing machines, it can save a lot of time (=money) due to the fact no forms are required. Kwik Kurb

If it can be set on existing pavement, the proceedure would be to spray a bonding agent prior to placing the curb. Around here I might expect to pay $3 to $5 per linear foot.

I drive by a house that had some done as a border between grass and flowerbed, one of the more decorative styles and it looks very nice. I do not know what the prep was prior to placement though.

Literally all street curbing installed here is continuous concrete. It's somewhat more elaborate than the landscaping curbs.

I don't know the local price for landscaping curbs, but there is so much of it being installed that I don't think the price is that high. It's a hot trend for small-time entrepeneurs; you can get a package deal with ram, trailer, mixer, slip forms, trencher and 2 days training for less than $20K.

All the curbs here on the city streets of Mississippi are continuous concrete. The city streets where I grew up in Kansas City were also all concrete.
