I like the way they accomplished the side shift. On the small units I've rented, the side shift was at the end by the cab. Kind of like a backhoe attached to the cab.

Its kinda different views from the Japanese makers on their Home market and US marketed machines. Both types of side shift have percs and disadvantages to the designs. I kept a PC30 and a Deere 27 rented at thelake jobs on several jobs. They both had the backhoe type side shifts. The only thing with som of them they wont swing equal distance they favor on side usually the left side for the swing. The thing with this is otfen the right hand side shift is hard to see when digging on grade its kinda blind. The advantages of this are its simple and cheap to maintain. The double knuckle sideshift you can sit in the middle of the excavation and the bucket stays parallel to the machine, It also makes the machine able to have the main boom more recessed so it can fold it up so it can walk in a confined space the width and length of the under carriage. Main disadvantage the boom is more complex and has more wear points. Ive got to now shut the water off from the cab heater as spring is getting here and its gonna get more than worm enough. We were digging the pits out in the building at work to see if we could keep up with the TLB's for digging out the pits for the paint evacs. Of course dad an I knew it wouldnt as the TLB our friend was using hada 3.5 foot bucket and 3times the HP. But on the confined areas I have the advantage to swing 360 degrees and the side shift. One of the laborers was commenting on the cab an how it looked but it was pouring down rain and i still was dry and happy. Im building a thumb for it right now and trying to figure where to tap in to the auxhilary hydraulics to run an auger.

Yes, I remember now that I could go all the way to the left but not all the way to the right. It was a little bobcat unit. Really did the job, though. Funny thing was trying to get coordinated... I'd be going along fine, getting faster and faster with the two joysticks. I'd pick up a big old scoop of dirt, swing half way to where I was going, then all of a sudden, my brain would short circuit... I'd whip back in exactly the oposite direction and dump the dirt right back where I got it from! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Let go of the joysticks, stupid. Then I'd take a break and start over slow again. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

That is one nice looking machine! ...and what a reach. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
What kind of hydraulic flow does it have for the auger?

im not quite sure at the flow on that machine, I may beable to put a rabbit valve on the bucket curcuit to run a low flow auger. It has 3 gear pums mounts in tandem i think one is for travel one for each pair of funtions. Some of the 50's that come over here have a hammer on them so im guessing it may be close to 10 to 15 GPM. I dont want a hammer on this hoe as they are death to a hoe Ill rent one with a hammer lol Ive seen one shake a new hoe to pieces. I did sart on my thumb and rake for it last night got most of the patterns done for the tracer torch and just need to do a test run. Im also collecting slabbs at the local sawmills to make a nice set of mats to allow travel in very swampy places as I have 3 ponds to desilt and 2 beaver tdams to remove.

Taylortractornut,

What can you (or anyone else) tell me about the Komatsu PC20 excavator?

How does it compare to the Bobcat 331 that I've rented before?

There is one for sale locally for $8000 that LOOKS fairly good and appears to run okay. The seller apparently has a verbal contract on it already but thought the prospective buyer might have problems coming up with the money.

I wanted to have some information about it before I started any serious negotiations. Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Kelvin

Kelvin I gave 8000 is steep for a PC 20 unless its a newer model with full pilot controls. I gave 8500 for the PC50uu I bought they sell a bit cheaper here. I think a PC 20 has a 6 or 7 foot depth on it. It may be 8 I cant quite remember the specifics. I can set you up with the dealer that I bought mine from My brother and I have bought several pieces from him. I can get his name and number for you if you'd like Just PM me. I ll also measure my friends PC20. They go over and hand pick alot of their Grey market machines and they make sure parts are available for them. They will also change them over to US controls on request.
