For my cattle operation and hay baling that I do it is not needed either, it just happened to be an already installed option on the tractor I purchased, I'm sure it will come in handy one day but for now it is just another lever to get in the way.

Some people find them very useful when pulling a box scraper; may come in handy someday and I may be kicking myself for not getting it.
