The rangers run in 2wd unless 4wd is needed (when in 4wd). So the delay of 2wd to 4wd transition maybe the cause of some of the loose handling.

No, the carlise 489 are total junk. They are biasply, and totally worthless. The AWD transition os totally seamless. With the awd off, it handles even worse.

What tires came on your Ranger from the factory?

I don't think my tires are total junk. Does well in snow I thought.
