Trev:
Does that mean you have also never seen a tractor with only a hand brake.

Merry Xmas

Hi Egon,

No, I have never seen one of those either. I really need to get to an antique tractor museum someday and see some of these things.. they sound fascinating!

Merry X-mas back to you!

A Landscape friend of mine who owns a large landscape company a while back switch from Kubota's to all New Holland and when i asked him his opinion on this same topic, manual Vs. Hydro he said without a dought to go hydro. He said all his tractors were manual but now will only buy hydro. The main reason was because to fix a clutch was $2500 each time and the hyrdo's almost never go bad and no clutch problems.

$2500 for a small clutch in a tractor ?
Where I work we just put a clutch and pressure plate in a tri-axle truck with a 350 HP Cat motor for around $1000.
Sounds like your friend was being robbed !

Oops,
Made a mistake.
Clutch and pressure plate for a Ford 9000 with a 3406 Cat.and 13 speed $700.
Throw out and pilot bearing around $100.
Me and one other employee 1 day labor around $300.
Total $1100 out the door.
If their getting $2500 to put a clutch in a small tractor I should become a dealer.

Re: my new tractor manual vs hydro

Others may need to speak up here, but I was told you need a MINIMUM of 50hp for a haybaler plus 5-6000lbs weight. Apparently the mechanism that packs the hay uses a lot of HP and the motion/weight of the implement can push an inadequate tractor down a hill.

Re: my new tractor manual vs hydro

When you test the shuttles, there are two types: PowrReverser and ePowrReverser. The first is mechanical and the second is "fly-by-wire" electronically controlled. Of all the mechanical shuttles I drove (and I drove many), I thought the PowrReverser was the smoothest of any brand. I felt "out of touch/out of control" feelings when shuttling with the ePowrReverser. Try them both and let us know what you think.

Re: my new tractor manual vs hydro

If you want to do it all and run a baler I would highly suggest getting a utility tractor. I've run a baler on my 4600 but it jerks it around alot and it's hard on it. I had a friend that ran a kubota on one and his pto went out and kubota would not cover it.
