why did you want a 7ft cutter for your 15 acres your tractor would easily handle 10ft cutter

He may want to spend more time on that gorgeous tractor mowing!!;) I was originally thinking about getting an M7040 with a 15 foot batwing. Now, that would be WAY, WAY, WAY overkill for my property. But it would be seriously cool. I then thought about getting an 8 foot mower so that I could spend more time mowing. But the dealer told me that the M8540 that I'm planning on getting would be more suited to a 10 foot mower than 8 foot. I am most assuredly going to get the Kubota M8540 with a Rhino Turbo 120 mower. I absolutely cannot wait!!:D

my M7040 handles a 15 ft batwing mower just fine. Generally mowe in 4th gear at 2200 rpm on the motor which equates to 540 at the PTO. It slows very little on some significant hills and maintains close to an even 4.5 miles per hour mowing speed. The 8540 will be even more capable of using a bigger mower. The great thing about the cab is the comfort that it provides with heat and AC so when I am done mowing 15 to 20 acres I wish there was more to mowe.

The budget was getting tight and I have over 120 trees to mow around. Sorry I haven't responded sooner but I ran into some problems. I got my new cutter in, hooked it up, greased it and started to mow. The gear box from the minute I engaged it is making a high pitch squeal. I contacted the place of purchase and he contacted the manufacturer. His reply was that the cast iron gear box tolerances are very tight and it will take some time to break in?OK I just fell out of a tree !!! He said to just keep mowing with it and if it melts down they will replace it. So I began mowing with it. Hasn't stopped in 11 acres. Now the hydro transmission takes about 5 seconds to engage in reverse. Forward is fine. Help!!! It is still under warranty however I would like some answers before the dealer gives me one.

I take it you did check the oil in the gearbox and it was full?? We bought a new 15' Rhino batwing several years ago and the dealer had forgotten to fill up one of the gearboxes with oil. It didn't take it long to go out.
