My new transfer tank set up

/ My new transfer tank set up #11
Frustrating update. I thought I could tack weld the barrel to the frame to keep it secure - turned welder down some - welded lip of barrel to frame then it happened !!! leak ! ugh so I pulled mower around and fueled it and filled up some 5 gallon cans.

After grinding off weld and getting barrel off I decided to build a battery holder while I find another barrel. Was gifted a nice battery from a friend and dug into scrap pile and found enough metal to make a holder. I have all thread and a plate to hold battery when i mount it. somewhere I have an extra trickle charger for my Harley I plan to leave that on the battery.

You welded on a drum with fuel in it?

I put my transfer tank in a small 4x8 trailer.. that way when it needs fuel, I just hook it up to the truck and drive it down to the station. For a power sourc,I use a battery jump pack and the alligator clips right to the jumper cables. For the few times a year that I need to fill machines it is super easy and no aggrition with keeping a trickle charge on anything.

its diesel - not getting it hot enough to burn - i just ran a bead to long and got the lip on the drum hot enough to crack the seam. no biggie. Barrels are easy to get.

Way too much trouble.... I've got my 55 gallon drum on a harbor freight large furniture mover.. rolls around on my concrete floor to where I need it, and cost me about $8 and zero time welding. They a rated at well over a full drum of diesel.... which reminds me I need to fill that thing up since fuel has dropped a bit lately.

Don't you get heating oil delivered? I'd just get the fuel jobber fill your barrel with ULSD.

no i have an outdoor wood boiler. Just need to fuel the 5400 and the 997 every now and then. Im thinking at worst once a month. Im using the mower more that the tractor and it just sips fuel. If I have to fill it more often I will get a bigger tank I guess.

I spent a lot of years hauling either avgas or barrels of water home. Just had muscle power to horse them around. Now that I'm old an puny, I can barely tilt a full barrel up on edge.

If your barrel can be well secured to its frame and can be well secured to your trailer then I guess it would be safe enough. Hope your roads are good and that the station is fairly close. Good Luck

Ok, I'll admit this is not in the $8 investment group, but I have got to show it off and it meets the thread title. Tired of lifting 5 & 6 gallon jugs to refuel the airplane (esp. wing tank) with non-ethanol car gas. Considered a stationary tank but delivery charges were outrageous. Wanted an aluminum tank and found a 55 gal. rated for transfer/transport (DOT approved). A used trailer with torsion suspension took a while, but found this used motorcycle trailer on CL which was just wide enough to fit the tank. Had to cut a hinge off to remove the cover of the trailer but it could be replaced. Battery pack is removable. Yeah, I had to put a reg plate on it too. Compared to the similar commercially made trailers ($4k+) I got less than a 1/3 in it.
