Even I have been able to follow instructions and hook up car stereos and backup cameras. Gotta believe someone who understands Diesel engines and hydraulic systems would have no trouble.

thats not even close to being true. You may be and there are still good techs out there but anymore most are parts replacers and then only what the computer tells them.

OK, OK, I illustrated my point with absurdity with the 1000 times quip, but my point is not so much that diesel mechanics are not usually electronics tech as that the dealers point that "you will have trouble with an aftermarket" was just pure Bull Puckey. He just wants to sell you HIS radio. And as other have pointed out, putting a stereo in a tractor is NOT rocket science, and you ain't liable to have much trouble with it if you are even moderately electronically inclined. I was putting them in when I was a teenager, and ripping them out of automobiles and bench testing and repairing them and putting them back in.

+1 on most of this. 2-1/2 yrs ago when I installed my aftermarket unit I didn't yet know a source for a connector to match the harness. So on recommendation of my dealer, I did as Comancheflight did. Very easy because all wires in both the tractor and Pyle unit were well marked. Now that we can match the connector, I'd probably still do the same thing.

As for the factory speakers, I'm fine with mine. I'm no audiophile, but this is a noisy tractor, after all, even with the cab. I also like to wear small, DIY custom-molded ear plugs (from Radians) whenever I'm working in the tractor, and just turn the radio up just enough so I can hear it. I've gotten much more protective of my hearing as I've gotten older.

+1 on most of this BUT a Kioti NX tractor isn't super noisy and the OEM speaker are super cheap. Changing out the stereo didn't improve the sound a lot, some, but not a lot because they are so bad. Changing out the speakers made a huge improvement...all I can speak about is the Kioti NX. When doing work next to the tractor I crank it with doors and windows open and engine off..great sound...

And why are we dogging diesel mechanics? They all deserve respect until proven otherwise..but thats just me, Mr Vegas

Hooking up radios is easy. All you need is a volt meter and a 9 volt battery.

Any ASE certified tech can easily solve electrical problems. The diesel HD guys are quickly catching up, while the heavy line mechanics have already been good at electronic controls for years.

Frequently shops hire auto techs because as cars got more reliable, there were too many auto techs.

Sixteen year olds without any training can wire in a radio.

I haven't used my tractor a whole lot this summer, maybe about 20 hours since March. Even so, for the second time since I was told to video my transmission popping out of gear because the factory will not warranty, my transmission popped out of gear and my video camera was running.

The first time last Spring, I pulled the power plug, and pulling the power plug wound up corrupted the video file. This second time I shut off the dash camera before I pulled the power plug. Apparently urning the dash cam off and then pulling the power also corrupted the video file. This stinks. I just want a safe tractor.

Anyway, after shutting down the camera (because I thought I had what I needed on video) and doing some more work picking up sawed up wind fallen trees, I was slowly making my way along my lakeshore when I realized I had no reverse. Huh?

At the next turnaround, I drove back to my staging area and found out about a new way to get a stick stuck into something.
