Goldens! They're purebred golden retrievers! The blondes are conformation dogs (show) and the reds are field dogs (birders). The difference besides the color is the blondes have a dense coat and undercoat that looks great in the ring when all brushed out, but is hell after mud and briars. The reds have no undercoat, so are dry five minutes after coming out of the pond.
My redheads get insulted when referred to as setters...but they get over it.
Boondox,
How old is the one on the left? Getting pretty white in the face. Mine is 9 1/2 and also getting pretty white in the face although not quite as white as yours. I'd say 11 or 12?
My old boy is Molson, leader of the pack and defender of the hill. He pulled me out of the springhouse last winter when I couldn't get out myself. He's pushing 10 years old now. All the white is probably from the first few years before we took him away from a man who beat him with a baseball bat.
