Well I had the pleasure of introducing the new lift to my tractor this morning

Spencer, I think you’ve got it. Now when are you going to install the remote FEL control on your man lift?/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Mark, you read my mind. After all the work Spencer has put into this, I didn't have the heart to ask.

Spencer, just make sure you and the bride are on good terms before you ask her to lift you up in that thing. You may be reporting back on the sleep comfort of a personnel lift.

Spencer might want to be sure to always have enough rope in the lift to allow him to exit regardless of the reason why the lift won't come down! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Looks great Spence. You will use the heck out of it when you start your building. Mine's been idle since the roof panels finished, but up until then it was the #1 tool. One thing that helped with my small jd4100 tractor, was to lower the boxblade onto the ground for stability when doing the realy high work. Everything from the tires up flexes a bit and it all adds up. For one step I actually used a short step ladder in the cage to get an extra 3 feet. Luckily that was at the peak and it over. Someone else said it already and I will echo that, I need (and you need) to add a tool tray to the plan that can be hung on the top rail on whatever side you want, otherwise you bend over to pick up the next tool constantly. Again, nice work. Use it a while before painting it, you may make some changes. Nothing I hate more than to have to burn thru fresh epoxy primer with the welder.

Interesting story about your ride in the sissor lift, Harv. I once had a ride in a 120' Condor lift that belonged to the LA Fire Department. That'll elevate your heart rate, I suspect only astronauts have a scarier ride.

Just and update, I started painting the lift today. I will hopefully be done with the primer coat by tonight. Both the wife and I were getting sick of me being out in the garage working on this project. I am very pleased with the results and appreciate everybody's input. I am ending up with a much better personnel lift because of all your suggestions. I will post some pictures after the painting is done.

IT'S DONE!!!

Finally the personnel lift is totally complete.

Thanks to advice from MarkV, RadMan and Ed King I came up with two removable guard rails for the front instead of welding on expanded metal there. I hope the top one will work for a lanyard point of attachment for a safety harness like Wroughtn_Harv suggested.

I added a door mounted on hinges that can easily be swung out of the way towards the back of the lift or can be lifted right off the hinges.

The back and the side without the door both have expanded metal welded on them.

Although I was always planning on a tool tray I might not have spent the time at the end of the project without the encouragement of Jim Gerken and RadMan.

Wish I had seen this post from the start!! Nice job spencer. A lot easier when you have the right tools!! Do you have an estimate of how much the whole thing weighs?

Gerard,
Unfornately I don't have any scrap metal around like a lot of other folks on this board so I had to buy all this metal from the local metal shop. On their invoices they do show how much each piece of metal I bought weighs. Now adjusting for scrap and other pieces that I did not use and adding in the Bobcat quick-tach plate I would estimate that there is about 300 pounds of steel there.

Here is another view.
