Sorry to hear of your troubles.

It is like a change in people all over the place. I have had talks with people "flying" over speed bumps in 25mph zones on private roads.
"Didn't know it was private".
"Didn't see the sign."
"Didn't see the bump."

OK, well how about being nice and slow down so as not to freak out my animals?

"Didn't see the animals."
"Didn't see the sign."
"Didn't see the barn."
"Didn't know you had animals."

OK, now that you see the signs, road, bump, animals, barns and I am talking to you "How about slowing down?"

OK. NOT.

Does Ca have a Forestry Dept? My local Al forester just loves to work trash cases. Somebody has been littering in a pretty forest and all forests are pretty. He also has police powers. Our county DA will prosecute.

I like the reply that has some names of some of my friends also, they talk, people listen.

I just told the deadbeat neighbor kid to please not pull off the road on my grass to get to the area he is killing on his. He told me he did not know where the line was..........the place where I do not cut grass would be a clue..

We will have a building project soon, I would hate a for a pound or two of nails to spill out right there.

The trash would be cleaned up and dumped in the first yard that I had an addy from an envelope.

When we lived in town, we lived on a main road, but the speed limit was 25 mph. That was greatly ignored, and I was paranoid that one of the neighbor kids was going to eventually get hit, to the point of trying to get the village to put a speed bump in front of the house. Couldn't get them to do that, and they never did start running radar either. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Gary,
Glad to know I wasn't the only one who thought of Alice's Restaurant when I read about sifting through the trash. That one's a classic for me.

Me too.

I just wonder where the "27 8x10 color glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one" are?

I was coming home from work one day and notice a bunch of boxes setting about 10 foot off the road I live on. I stopped to check it out and found hundreds of magazines. Every one had the same address label and I knew where this person lived /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

About dusky dark I told my wife we needed to make a delivery. I loaded up all the boxes in the back of my truck. It was dark by then so we headed to our delivery point. The wife pulled up to this person's long paved driveway and I jumped out to unload. I stacked the boxes all the way across their driveway so they couldn't leave or enter unless to moved them /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BillyP . . . excellent . . . I would have prayed for a heavy rain that night and hoped that the boxes would have collapsed so they would have had a much harder time picking them up!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh yea Danny that was me. One night when I lived on a corner street the kids stopped in front of my house. Got out of the car screaming at 3am on a worknight. One pulls out and drives through my front lawn. Now I'm up at this point. Downstairs I go and get the Mossburg. Load 3 rounds up and outside in my shorts I go. Well one kid is smashing glass in the street. He was drunk. My first round goes into the air to get their attention. I walk up and tell them to keep moving along. No problems after that.
I'm in town getting milk a few days later and the local babysitter we use says to me did you shoot a gun off the other night? I said yea why, she said it's all over school. I told her to tell the kids to leave me alone and I'll do the same. Worked out well.
This isn't the right way to deal with the situation but it's my way. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

ByronBob,
Your method can work but if some of the other party happens to be carrying, then an very ugly situation can result. Alcohol and gun powder do not mix well. Your method is fairly common here in east central KY, however I know of a couple of similiar situations that got out of hand and left bodies around. For that reason I never threaten with a gun unless absolutely necessary for protection of life. But then this is just my way....

Billy,

I liked that.......It reminded me of many years ago when i was in the garden and lawn mowing business, I chased money owed by a client for months before i eventually gave up. At the end of one day loaded with clippings i decided to save some dump fees......... you guessed it, they were dumped at her front door /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Live very rural but have a neighbor across from me on a main highway. A few years ago I began finding golf balls in my garden and front lawn. Wasn't hard to figure out where they were coming from so had a talk with the dad. Problem solved but he did have the guts to ask for the balls back. I had already donated them to another guy.

I have also had a car stop and deposit a sack full of fast food leavings right in the middle of my driveway.

My neighbor had the same problem (not a problem for him really) he kept finding golf balls in his woods, they never could figure out where they were coming from till I went by one day during deer season to ask him to post his property, which was already done. He asked me about them, I just smiled, he did too, he plays golf.

at least they went to a good cause.

All I ever see is empty beer cans, lots of empty beer cans. Must be a lot of drinking and driving in my part of town.

Years ago I lived on a corner lot in a suburb and every Saturday and Sunday morning I had to pick up beer cans and cardboard containers along both streets. I solve most of the problem by putting out a large trash can on Friday night.

To my amazement, the vast majority of the refuse ended up there. I figured it was just kids making sure they'd removed the evidence of their underage drinking before they went home. I won't discuss what history helped me reach that conclusion. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I agree with you slowrev about the gun thing. That should only be a last resort if someone's life is in danger. If those kids are carrying which a lot of them do now days, then a situation has been created where not only are you and the kids in danger but everyone else living within range which includes your family. In Washington DC you hear quite frequently about gang shooting and a stray bullet going into a house and hitting an innocent person watching TV.
Besides, when kids are involved I have found it is generally easier if you try to talk to them first and not get nasty. When I was in high school some kids were goofing around and an old man threatened them with a gun. They destroyed his car a week later as well as other damage. Even if he saw them and then shot at them, guess who is going to jail to see Big Bubba /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I forget the saying so before I botch up a good saying like one of our presidential canindates did. It's something about catching more bees with a spoonful of sugar than a gallon of vinegar or something like that.

I know of a guy years ago that tilled gardens for a fee for the locals and he had one customer that never paid him for his tilling the gardens. One day he was going out the road when the peoples garden who never paid him was really growing and looked nice and just happened to be driving his tractor which just happened to have his plow on the tractor. So he just pulled onto the peoples property and plowed there garden again for free.

The rear blade on my Kubota excels at making small speed bumps which grow to impressive dimensions as people speed over them on our eight foot wide dirt road. Doesn't take long for the entire length of the road to turn into washboard which has the odd effect of slowing down pretty much everybody.

We actually carry the numbers of a few different tow truck operators. Most for nice people, and one in particular for jerks. The one for jerks has a sliding scale. He starts high and adds to the bill depending on how much grief the stuck person gives him. He also has a history of unhooking and driving away if the invective gets too bad...leaving them stuck wherever. Pete

A friend of mine offered to pull a client of his out of the snow bank. It was a jetta so my buddy told the client to chose where to hook on. One good yank and nothing came except a funny looking black thing.

The client had wrapped the strap around the fuel tank filler pipe! It tore the side of the gas tank open and messed up the fender where it came off! My buddy laughed for 10 mins before he could get out of the truck!

Next they pushed the guy out of the driveway onto the road so they could tow him to a shop and the guy promptly backed straight into the ditch!

( My dad left it up to him on where to connect, and to stay out of the mud. that was in the 70's, before things went too nuts. The guy was not happy, but he hooked it up, and he was un-stuck...
