Actually I can stand under it and stay mostly dry, even in a downpour. An old farmer pointed that out to me years ago as we were talking about rolled roofing. Installing it vertically allows the water to run down the edges. He said that a lot of old barns were built without shingling and didn't leak (much) even though you could see through the cracks.

I'll get the shingles on it this spring.

I'm not sure yet. It's just an entryway, so whichever is cheapest.

Is there anything more problematic to homes/barns/shops/garages than water?

Rain water, washing machines, toilets, dish washers, water heaters, pressure tanks, sinks, showers —- all ready to cause issues at any moment!

It's only a 4 foot span. I will be in the tractor bucket.

Insects? (termites, and carpenter ants come to mind, but so do bees)
