What's your opinion of the "why". I have heard various things. One is that the communist's/socialists's/progressives (all the same in my book) at Google have cracked down and tried to pull ad money out of everything right wing/conservative/gun related. That and the ISIS videos showing ad's and making advertisers leery of putting money into Google/Youtube... What is your take on it?
My opinion is that channels like mine tend to attract people who spend money on equipment and home improvements. While I never talk about guns, politics, or matters of faith, plenty of people do and those channels are getting demonetized. I believe that the at the core of the demonetizing is an extension of the increased tribalism that has been preached as near gospel in our public education system over the last 20 or 30 years.
America is increasingly polarized to the point where even centrists like myself are asked if I'm a Republican or a Democrat depending on a view point I expressed conversationally in person. We're losing our ability tolerate differences in opinion while enjoying the comfort of our collective nationalism in that we're all Americans (or Canadians, or Englishmen, or whatever nationality the reader may well be from)
Whatever the reason YouTube had for the original demonetization, whether is was ISIS, or racial issues, or some esoteric issue beyond my ability to apprehend, YouTube has now extended it into demonetizing what has been regarded as normal American views (faith, hunting, guns, differing points of view in politic and policy, et cetra). I don't swear on my channel, I don't talk about religion, I don't talk about hunting, or guns, or racial issues (I'm mean Minnesotans are often regarded as the most open, friendly people in our union), and I've seen a drop in ad revenue.
What I can say is that consumer boycotts never work and never last, and as doubtlessly advertisers are consumer driven, I'm confident that this will pass.
That said, if you're interested in learning about America losing its ability to think through matters, discuss, and resolve issues where parties have differences of opinion in politics and policy, cue up PagerU on YouTube and start watching.
