My firstborn, then 7, was killed when a van hit him in 1988. This is the first year I haven't mourned on that day, because I was mourning my mom's birthday on the 17th. She died of pancreatic cancer in July, after a long, nasty struggle, living several months with us. Dad died in 2001.

I've been wondering a lot about how my son would have liked our new place, 20 acres with woods, pasture, pond, creek. And it may sound morbid, but I've been thinking at age 27, hew would have really enjoyed playing around with my Kubota tractor like I do.

I don't know if it really hurts any more, it's just like a big dry empty hole in my heart.

It hurts to lose a loved one , I lost my father when I was in high school back in 1976,time is the best healer. With that said ,in my opinion it would be harder to lose a child than a parent. After reading your post and seeing the picture of your wonderful son's picture I cannot help but to feel your pain and feel so sad about your terrible loss. It is hard to understand why these things happen in life.
God bless you and yours.

Terrible topic, but great thread! We can all relate in some fashion. If we can't we will.

I haven't lost a child or parents yet. It's a joy and blessing to have them all here, but it is also scary, as I know that at some point it will end.

I can imagine life moving on with sadness without a parent. Don't know if I can imagine it going on without my boys. When they were born my life was given its purpose. Without them I would loose my identity, "Dad".

My prayers are with all of you for your pain.

Amen and amen. Me, too.

Don't understand how parents go on after the death of a child. Time and prayer surely are all that make it bearable.

Our prayers for everyone in that situation.

My grandfather always said the worst thing that can happen to a man is to outlive his children. He outlived 2 of his.

Same thought from my parents and we have 4 children and I feel the same way. My Mom & Dad my wife's Mom & Dad have all passed but I still have my wife & 4 children. Our 2 oldest daughters have gotten married this year and that leaves our son and youngest daughter single. Thoughts and Prayers for those who have lost loved ones :(
