Here's my Irish Red & White Setter, Inde. The Red & Whites were the original color, they ended up breeding the white out of the setters when dog shows became popular, the solid red setter, thought to look flashier in the ring, became the dog of choice.
In or around the 1970’s to early 1980’s, there was a serious revival in Ireland and England and the breed is now becoming firmly established again. It's very hard to find breeders that have this type of dog in the US! From what I've read, most breeders do not want the bad/less desireable characteristics that seem to plague the red setters. They seem to be doing it the right way.
I'm pretty sure that when the time comes, we'll probably get another one, but two dogs in the house are MORE than enough for me!
