So, in several posts I occasionally see a reference to "negotiations" required to get your significant other to agree with some aspect of tractor owning/operating/purchasing accessories for.

I know things are not anywhere as bad as they may be made out to be, so I've decided to set the bar and see what everyone else comes up with to top it.

Here's mine:

While she didn't come along to the cookout at Rick's, my wife was quite happy to make a 7 day trip half way across Canada and drive down into the U.S. for me to go to it. During the afternoon, she tooled around Scranton, PA for the 2-3 hours I tried the skills competition, met some of the guys, as well as Mr. and Mrs., and talked to others I would have never met any other way.

She found it funny the customs guy at the border questioned how I would expect to get tractor attachments back in our Mazda-3 rental car.

She has never questioned my idea to build on a 3200 square foot extension to the house to ensure I had a dedicated, heated garage for the tractor (along with two welders, an Atlas metal lathe, and rolling tool chest).

She has not suggested she should be parking her car in there instead.

My last three birthday gifts have been a 26' extension ladder, a 6" Delta jointer, and a gas powered pressure washer.

Her summer project requires about 20 hours of tractor time, and a tandem load of topsoil. After one session, I asked if she thought the tractor was a good investment. She says she had always thought it was a good idea to have one. I think she is mildly amused at my relatively new passion of my big, orange toy that keeps us in good stead with our neighbors.

Anyone else?

Hey, what a nice write up. It's nice to see that you appreciate your wife and situation.

I feel the same way about my wife. She has always been supportive of "equipment" whether it has been the tractor, tools, etc. It's great. Try to work it both ways too. We just finished a kitchen remodel, and she is thrilled!

Jon, open minded and pretty too, man you got the entire package going!!

My wife has tollerated the following, keeping in mind when she moved in with me my house was about 2 years old (almost 10 years ago) among 7 other houses built at the same time and the mini-boss is now 6 years old.

1953 case track loader (ran 50-60% of the time I owned it) parked under a tarp when not in use, plugged into the house to keep the battery charged.

1973 JD dozer (mini-boss learned how to drive on that dozer).

1970 Kubota tlb (B6000E) parked in the garage when not in use. Hand built (by someone else) backhoe frame mounted (that part done by me, in my driveway, over a three week period).

1992 K2500 (former Kioti Hauler), mostly in pieces while I rebuilt the bed into a flat bed, in the driveway, infront of the garage where she usually parks.

1986 Ford F250, at the shop, typically parked in the yard, used handful of times per year.

1986 Capri Bowrider boat, used once (without her), still parked out back.

5-10 old lawnmowers, snowblowers, riding mowers, etc. at any one point in time in various locations around the house (I used to repair and sell them) to this day.

Tri-Axle trailer used a handfull of times (but I just had to have it), parked in the yard most of the time, and in pieces for 6 months of that time while I rebuilt it.

14 foot utility trailer parked in yard, I used to use it when picking up and delivering used equipment.

2004 Kioti TLB.

A yard that is completely trashed as a result of the above for the entire 8 years she's lived here, really does look a little like a junk yard (maybe a lot), the kicker is, we are in a town where much time is spent on appearances. My addition was done over two years ago and still no shutters.

Many, many, many overnight (typically Friday nights) work sessions on the above, either in the garage, or the yard, with generators going, welders going, grinders going, etc. To the point where the police have visited me at 2:00am to make sure I was not someone trying to break into my house (that night I was putting sheet metal over the rust of the utility body on my K2500 prior to removing and building the flat bed), oh yeh, the utility body is still in the back yard.

With all that said, my wife makes my lunch and dinner every night, does all the house work and laundry, tolerates all the clothes I trash as a result of the above.

All while raising an amazing mini-boss, reading to her every day and night, doing school work together (mini-boss is going into first grade knowing how to read, write and do math), taking the mini-boss to all of her activities (modelling, acting, dance, tumble, soccer, skating (roller and ice), to the Library, tennis, etc.) Doing crafts together (my wife was a make-up artist and is very artistic and she shares that trait with the mini-boss).

She's allowed the mini-boss to drive a quad since she was 18 months, drive a mini-bike with training wheels since 18 months, drive all my tractors, work on all my equipment with me (she's got her own craftsman tool set) and encouraged the mini-boss to be completely open minded. At 3 years old the mini-boss would come with me to pick up old broken equipment, help me fix it, and see me sell to others. I don't think all wives would do the same.

As a result, I think the mini-boss will be unlikely to pass judgement, is and will continue to be completely open minded, and as a result will have every opportunity to lead a productive, healthy life.

I think I am lucky too.

SWMBO is an excellent spouse, even though I occasionally make comments otherwise here. When I was debating on getting a tractor in the first place, not sure if we could afford it, she was supportive and told me to get the largest one I wanted, not needed- wanted, we would find a way to afford it. Last year when Rick had is first annual picnic, I was not sure if I wanted to make the drive, especially without her, she insisted I go. This year she was planning on going with me, but alas personal things came up and we were unable to go. She has learned to use the tractor so she takes care of her garden herself. When I am out of town in the winter, she uses the FEL and rear blade to clear the driveway. She has almost as much fun with it as I do. She also puts up with me and my mess, I was in the process of rebuilding the bedrooms after a MAJOR water leak 3 years ago, so my living room was my bedroom when she moved in 2.5 years ago... still is. She was the one who encouraged me to build the 30x30 garage so I would have room for all my toys and be able to work on my cars. Our single car garage is not really big enough to do much wrenching in anyway. I LOVE her completely and do my best to spoil her any chance I get, as she does me. Life with her is GREAT!! :D

My wife is in the same league as above. When we supposed to have third date I called her and told her I have a job to do. I was finishing coworker's basement into a playroom to make few extra bucks. I told her I couldn't see her unless she would want to help me. She was there in 15 minutes. We started working and I am looking at this woman and thinking if is she really a female. I didn't need to tell her how to hold a hammer, drill or circular saw. She was pounding in framing nails in three or four hits, lifted a 4 by 8 sheet of drywall to the ceiling and while holding it by one hand on one side screwing drywall screws in with the other hand. She broke her nail and instead of crying just said å¾¹h sh..t ripped that off and kept working. Later on a blob of construction glue fell on her head and we had cut some hair off. She said only å¾¹h sh..t and asked for scissors. That day I told myself if I get a chance to marry her I would. Well we are 20 years together. When we were finishing our house few years back we lived in our garage (initially without a door) all summer without a toilet and only hardly working shower, I didn't hear a single complain.
She installed all the wiring with only single small mistake and we laid all the floors, installed AC, kitchen cabinets, bathrooms and plumbing together.
She can reverse trailer trough the hardware store warehouse without hitting anything, knows the wire gauges and bolt and nail sizes etc.
I got only top quality tools such as drills, saws, cordless tools, chainsaw etc at various occasions.
When we were looking for a tractor I wanted about 26-30 HP used machine, but she just drove to a TYM dealer and said just buy new so WE would enjoy it.
She can run a marathon in about 5 hours, ride a bicycle 100 miles and do it next day again, she drive her car fast.
She is a great gardener and excellent cook.
What else I can brag about? She has a movie star looks.

My wife is well, plain swell. We're 24 years together today and we are likely the most compatible people in the world. Similar interests, both compliment each other, or should I say she make me look good. I love her.

NOTE: She's pretty much never in heels, although the wife on the tractor in heels is pretty "special". Hmmmm. Some guys like silk and diamonds, me, a wife on a tractor is the way to go!!!

Well we'll be married 44 years next month. She's put up with me when I worked 60 hours a week. Acted as my pit crew when I raced sports cars. Complemented me on all my many different hobby's. When I wanted to buy some acreage, she was the one who suggested the last 65 we bought. Nagged me to buy a new tractor and not just buy another used one.

Most of all she has been a wonderful mother to our 4 children and a great grandmother to our 5 grandchildren.

Till death do us part.

If my wife ever did any yardwork I would surely die. If it doesn't come out of a box, bag, or the styrofoam container - she didn't make it. If she climbs on to my tractor to do anything, it is because I am screaming for her to get on it and do something before I kill myself, or something falls over and kills me. She doesn't clean, she does do laundry, she is a fantastic mother to our child, and my mother loves her dearly. We might make it to our 13th anniversary this year, we dated for about 6 years before that.

Ahhhhhh the love I have for her.
