I would say it is normal. When you turn the key and the starter turns the engine the injecter pump starts pumping. I run cat equipment at work and have seen this on most all diesels.

It is normal to see a little extra smoke on cold start-ups(unburned fuel)
Use your glow plugs a reccommened.NO choke like a gas engine. If it is real cold cycle glow plugs twice.

What they said, your manual should outline cold starting procedures. Some have a glow plug indicator and other I just do a count.

When you say "a lot" are you meaning that the tractor smokes for quite a while after starting or just a puff when it first fires? My B3300 gives a puff of black sooty exhaust when it first fires but quickly clears (however, cold for my area is temps in the low 40s). It's almost like it just clears it's throat then runs normal. I think that is pretty normal for most diesels especially when temps are cold.

However, if it smokes for a while after starting, there was some discussion about fuel pump timing or some other cause to that. There was even a Youtube video about it.

That is a lot of smoke for the amount of glow plug. I would have the glow plugs checked and maybe the timing. My b3200 uses about 1/3 the glow plug and starts with just a little blue/white smoke. Exhaust clears in a few seconds.

That looks a bit much IMO. I have a L3700 that does not smoke near that much, even @ below 20*

Yep, that is way too much smoke.

Ya way too much smoke! I get a puff of black smoke at well colder temps than that. I would check the timing as mentioned. I dont think that blue smoke is normal. Good luck

As others said before me , Way to much Smoke! I've had a BX23TLB, B3200TLB and Now A Grand L3540, none have smoked that much on start up even where I live in upstate N.Y. and all tractors live in un-heated barn with single temps. Believe me your glow plugs are not all working.
