I was working on my fence and trimming some brush.

I kept hearing a funny noise coming from one of the trees.
I found this hole where it was coming from but I knew better than to stick my head in there.

So I stuck my camera in the hole to see what it was...

I bet that would have been one mad mom if she had been awake.

One time my father in law was cutting an oak tree down that was rotting with the chain saw and all of a sudden blood came squirting out all over him..He came up to the house and he had blood all over his shirt and sleeves...he had sawed a Raccoon in half. He really felt bad about it...but how do you know..

I was really curious about what was in the hole. It took me a while to think about sticking my camera in there. I was surprised the picture even turned out OK.

Awesome pic of mother nature. The raccoons and neat pic of how the tree grew around the barbed wire. (At least that is how it looks)

I had a pair as pets back in '84 or so the dogs treed them on a 5' high stump, only about the size if little kittens. I was thinking of letting the dogs have them but they were huddled up on top of the stump & were to cute. when I walked up to the stump they literately stood up and held out their little arms to me! I think they were pretty much starving as their mom was hit out front of the woods in the road. the woods were between our house and the neighbors place. I went & pulled the dead coon off the road as I didnt want the dogs out in the road after it & I could tell it had been actively nursing that night... so home they came with me to the house and the dogs were just thinking I was bringing them home a late night snack lol... But they were well trained and one word of NO to them and they were left alone we bottle fed them for about 4 weeks and then got them onto solid food. it was some great pets for a couple years the female staid 3+ years then went off while the male left about 2 years into it. we left them run free & wrestle with the dogs... pretty fun show most times and they loved tormenting the cat & the smaller dog.

My wife raised one about 6 years back. They are truly entertaining ... She called her Rascal. Darn thing learned how to open the door to get in to get food. Talk about a surprize on night!!

Trouble making little sun of a gun. AND A THEIF anything shiney it was gone.

to the rest thanks for the caring stories, nice to read. I also have been around pet raccoons, they are a lot of fun, and quite smart.

After the human race is gone, raccoons have my vote to be the next intelligent species to evolve on this planet. They already have hands.

We have quite a problem with them when up in the San Juan islands. They will board your boat, and make a heck of a mess if you don't lock it up tight. I don't have many around here that I see, but used to love giving them sugar cubes, and watch them try to wash them before they ate them. I Know, it's cruel, but fun. Call PETA.

I would have probably did the same thing if I had two baby racoons stand up and hold their arms out at me. Stuff like that tends to bring out the soft side of us men :)
