It's about that time of year again, so I just put out my version of the beetle trap. I got tired of empying the pheremone trap bags what seemed like daily, then what to do the darned things!?!? So I came up with this: I took a 5 gal plastic bucket with a lid, cut a 3' hole in the lid, trimmed the bottom off of one of the bags, put it thru the hole and taped it to the bottom side of the lid. The trap is held up by a metal rod. I have 2 of these put out down wind from my trees.

This way I can collect almost a whole seasons worth of those darned things before having to empty the buckets. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I know the trap should be higher, but so far this has worked pretty well. No pics right now, but will post some as soon as I can.

I have apple trees and a Japanese Plum tree, that they just love. So I also wind up spraying them almost daily with either liquid Sevin or Ortho Max. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Greetings jdgreg,

IMHO the best way to deal with Japanese Beetle is to give traps to all your neighbours:)) - and use none.
I trapped them 4 yours ago - and I mean pounds and pounds of them, this year seems to be ok, but if I need to, I am going to try your idea, thank you.
Also I was wondering if I could set the trap above the pond - food for catfish:)

And we are (almost) neighbours, since I live near former Vint Hill army base.

So we are neighbors, well almost. RE giving the traps to my neighbors, wont work for me. My property faces the NNW, house is in the back corner, and the back of the property adjoins my neighbor's wooded acerage. If I dont put traps out, they really devour the trees. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Another neighbor here... near Nissan Pavilion.

Any pictures of your trap? We have a plum tree and my wife has lots of planters full of geraniums that are like a giant salad bar for the JBs.
