Setback.

The wife had an appointment with the doctor this past Friday (we missed last weeks appointment because of a Day/Date mix up and then the doctor went on vacation).
Anyways, it looks like she is going to have to go in for some more surgery because the finger nail is growing over all the dead black tissue instead of behind it. The nail is supposed to push the dead black tissue out as the nail grows. He also doesn't like the way the one side of the finger and the tip look /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. We won't know how he is going to approach the next surgery until her appointment next week. She's really bummin'. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I would think so. It's been a tough go for her; hope it gets better.

i know of three guys who cut there fingers off with saws. long surgery's for all of them to reattach. same thing, might not work. but all three have almost full use and don't look bad at all. doctors like to cover their a__es and tell you the bad news. but with prayers and a good surgeon finger tips usually come out okay. the fact that you got her to the hospital and the finger tip on ice quickly is the most important thing. our prayers are with her and hoping for a full recovery. she'll be picking out nail polish color before you know it. hope all goes well.

Update:

The doctor decided to hold off on the surgery and will do office treatments for the nail problem instead. It's amazing what they can do in their office now-a-days. The wife is very happy with his decision. As for the one side of the finger he is not to happy with, that can be touched up at any time I guess. He did discuss this with my wife which was very thoughtful on his part. The wife just wants to get it over with now and resume normalcy.

That does sound like good news. Like your wife, I'd rather do it in the doctor's office than go to a hospital for surgery. I wish her luck with it.

And I like the capital R in your signature name. Get tired of being called Gerald, did you? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks Bird. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
And yes, being called the wrong name gets annoying so I tried to send a message. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

When the doctor explained the procedure to me and that it is routinely done in the office, I told him that there was no question about it that I wanted it done in the hospital under general anesthesia, rather than a local. Some things you are better off not knowing what they are doing while they are doing it to you. I can skip the blow by blow description as they explain it to the resident or intern that is learning. Went though that once and once was enough. What I don't know, feel, or hear, is better for me in the long run. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No doubt that you're right for some things. But when I had carpal tunnel surgery, it annoyed me that they put up a screen so I couldn't see what that doctor was doing. And when I had hernia surgery, that big light fixture overhead (stainless steel?) made a good mirror so I was able to watch what the surgeon was doing and discuss it with him during the surgery. I later told him that it was a good thing that I watched because if I hadn't been watching all the time myself, I'd have sworn the next day that he left a knife in there. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Rereading my original post, I see that I did not mention that the reattachment was done in the ER. Figured if that could be done there, then the office is just the same not to mention much quicker for what needs to be done now.
