Mysterious leak - B2710

The fuel tank has a tray to catch fuel that missed the fill hole and a tube runs down along the fuel tank. I know you are saying it looks like trans oil. I would check my fill cap and see if that has been leaking, loose, or missing. The hose is about 3/4" in size on the outside.

If it's not that, it has to be a power steering leak and so happens it's running down that hose. Pull the dash panel up and look under there.

Had a similar issue on a mx5100.One of the power steering hoses was leaking then ended up blowing out at the most inopportune time. 2 times I might add. So check that for sure and if one is leaking you may go ahead and replace both hoses. Mine blew apart within a few weeks of each other. The MX has some type of plastic polymer hoses. They had to be ordered also. Just a suggestion.

Ouch, I checked the tractor today and there is now a huge puddle under it. Sure does look like UDT - checked the level on the dipstick and it does not even show on the stick. I looked under the seat and there is the tool box there and behind the seat is the filler cap for the transmission, but I don't see any kind of vent.

This is baffling me....the only thing I know to do is clean the floor and fill up the transmission, then run the tractor to try and figure out where it is coming from.

By the way the hose is in fact about 3/4" and hangs down directly below the dash, near the filler cap for fuel. However I have not put fuel in the tractor in weeks, and now that the UDT is clearly low and what is on the floor seems to have more viscosity than diesel, I have to conclude that it is in fact leaking UDT.

The vent is a small tube, it could like a ? or just a little hook under the seat to the front of the rockshaft housing. They had 2 different ones.

Ouch, not good, Alan. I think I'd stop by the dealer and see what a mechanic's opinion is.

There could be air because the big puddle at the end did seem to have some foam to it.

Have you ever cleaned the metal screen? If that's clogged you could be starving the pump and putting air into system.

I don't think my tractor has a metal screen anymore. I believe it was replaced by a filter which I do change out when I service the transmission. When the tractor was almost new I had trouble with the power steering binding and they rerouted some lines and replaced the screen with a screw on oil filter. It was on one side or the other - I forget which.

Bird, the tractor is nearly 15 years old and has not be in the shop in 13 years so I don't know anybody down there. Also, my trailer has 4 flat tires... Wow am I prepared or what?

But if you just stop by to visit and ask questions without having the tractor there, they might have a good idea of what the problem is.

You have a point. I should take pictures.
