Mystery Metal Found Between Engine and Transmission

Brian rthere used to be a tractor junkyard up around Willard. It has been a long time since I was there so I'm not sure if it still there. They had all kinds of old iron in there. I found a manifold for a 1939 B Allis Chalmers several yrs ago. Would be worth an afternoon trip. You could also stop at the biker bar for one of their famous Bologna sandwiches. I think they have close to 100 different ones.

If the O.D. measures 2-1/8", it is the expansion plug behind the cam.

Usually slightly convex when new. When replacing, clean th hole real good. Dad always put a dab of Permatex 2 around the lip, in the block. Fit the plug in, and seat by placing a hammer, or large flat punch on the high point, and a few hard taps with another hammer to expand it, seating it.

Ahh - that makes sense. Seems like this is the most likely source of the mystery metal - again, with the cam taking a major beating, it tracks.

Thanks!

Bill - you talking about G&R in Waldo, for the sandwiches? Yeah, I've been there. You'd never think that bologna could be so interesting! :)

I'll take a scan around on the map and see what I can find. I do not live far from there at all.

Many thanks for the tip!

Dang Bill ... Gingerich's passes my "red to green ratio test" via Google Maps ... granted they could be some Farmall's in there ;-) this looks promising. :)

Thanks again for the great leads! That's a bit of a haul for me, but I'll be making some phone calls.

My step brother, a trucker in Wisconsin, called me the other night with a couple leads of places near him that he knew about. The first place I called (Strupp Implement in Slinger, WI) has a MF65 high-crop with a loader (asking $4k) and he thinks he has a block and is looking for me.

So every little lead helps for sure! I love this site - you guys are the best.

Murphy1244 - I called Medina Tractor on Pearl but I don't think that was the right place, he was pretty insulted that I'd asked about a Massey-Ferguson :)

I'll keep looking around there - everything on the planet seems to be on Pearl in Medina.... even a Tractor Supply. ;-)

Medina Tractor is on route 18
There is a Massey dealer on 18 also, Keiffer something

There is a tractor junkyard in Medina Oh. On pearl road by reagan prky.

And the latest installment of "As the engine search turns..."

  • - Gingerich - no more used parts :(
  • - Medina Tractor - No Massey Allowed :(
  • - Holgate - No G176's :(
  • - Anderson Machine - G176 for $1500 :confused2: I'll just go dig up my gold. NOT
  • - Willard Auto & Tractor - left vmail
  • - World Wide Tractor Parts - only diesels in stock
  • - A place in Lansing, MI has a G176 block, no cracks, for $325. So far this is the most promising option I've found. But I'd really like an engine that turns over.
