Has anyone ever pulled a UOA on Mystic JT8 15w40 Super heavy duty synthetic blend oil? The tractor store I go to still gets it in CI-4+. I was wondering if anyone used it and if anyone has any numbers on this oil. I was considering using it in my small Kubota and maybe in my older cars and trucks.

I wouldn't mind hearing a little more about Mystik too. All I know is that Citgo makes it and it's been around quite a while. A few of the local stores sell it and I had thought about trying it in the Kubota along with their hydraulic fluid because I can get it locally. I ended up making the trip to the Kubota dealer and just used OEM fluids.

I've been using it in my Ford powerstroke... I like it...
It may be all in my head but it seems to run a little smoother than another brand I was using.

This is the only brand I avoid like the plague. I think the US operations of Citgo are likely to be sold to someone else in the next 1-3 years though.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah, I found out it was made by Citgo after I bought it. I hate to buy products from them but I read the Mystik line is under some other group now?!? However, they employ a ton of Americans and are headquartered in Houston Texas. Anyway, I wrote them and these are the numbers that they sent me for this oil:
CI-4 plus 15w-40 synthetic blend heavy duty diesel oil:

Pour Point -27 F
VI 139
Flash Point 457 F
Ash 1.1
Zinc 1490 ppm
Phosphorous 1345 ppm
HT/HS 4.1
Noack 12
These actually look like pretty good numbers. The only one I don't like is the noack volatility number. This does not mean as much without a UOA I really would like to know how it holds up under work/time.

I did write them back and asked about Moly, Boron, Calcium and Magnesium numbers. I heard they have Boron, Calcium and some Moly in it by hearsay but I asked them as I do not want to post any numbers by hearsay.
By the way Diesel Power, I understand you guys have a good diesel oil product but I did not know how to find it. Any Info. Thanks. I have not used or opened the Mystic yet so it can sure go back for a better oil choice I just don't know about the CJ-4 oils in tractors etc yet.

Mystik JT-8 Syn Blend 15W-40 (typical specs)

Magnesium is a detergent / dispersant additive which leads to the
highest levels of TBN per unit of SASH (sulfated ash) which means you
get the optimum dose of acid fighting protection with less ash buildup.
High levels of ash are a function of detergent...Barium, Calcium,
Magnesium are the most often used detergent additives. Calcium is a low
cost, effective detergent but must be used in larger quantities to get
the same TBN / cleanliness results. Because a oil has a starting TBN of
12, 14 or 57 means very little, the question I would ask is what is the
TBN retention of the used oil after 10,000 or 15,000 miles of hard
highway hauling or many hours of extreme off-road construction work. The
TBN must last throughout the oil drain life and not be used up quickly.
That's the advantage to Mystik JT-8 15W-40 and 15W-50 they are
formulated to retain TBN (acid fighting performance) for the extent of
the oil drain interval.

API CJ-4 is the newest heavy duty oil specification that is required for
2007 model year trucks in conjunction with the EPA's On-Highway 2007
Exhaust Emission Standards that require a reduction in nitrogen oxide
and particulate matter, Mystik offers a high performance diesel engine
oils for both new and older diesel engines, Mystik JT-8 EMT 15W-40
(CJ-4).

If you have a mixed fleet of older and new equipment you do not have
to stock two different grades of oil, one for new engines and one for
older unites. The new Mystik JT-8 EMT is designed to be backwards
compatible. Meaning, if your older units call for API CH-4, CI-4 or
CI-Plus then the only crankcase oil you would need to stock would be the
Mystik JT-8 EMT.

Old thread.... probably no responses but Chavez is dead. Has been for a while. Anyone consider using it now ? Since he died, I've used it in my old tractors and it works well. BTW, John Deere has also gone to overseas for many production pieces. Take a look at Lowes " John Deere " tractors. A far cry from the original. I don't know about their oil but it might be interesting to see where it comes from. Hard to avoid overseas products when our own companies are sending the American worker down the toilets.
