I have a Ford NAA and at one time there was a loader on it. I removed it a long time ago but the valve is still on the tractor (see attached photo) This valve changed the hydraulics from the 3ph to the loader. It has developed a leak lately from the area where the yellow arrow is pointing. What I'm wondering is if I can remove that valve and replace the cover with another part or if there is likely a washer or gasket under the nut that may be shot? I also wanted to know if there are any surprises under there if I take a wrench to it?

Thanks in advance !!

Glenn,

There is a lift cover plate that can be put there instead of the selector valve. I don't think there available new for the NAA but I imagine you can find one used.

If it's like the later lift cover plate/selector valve then there are o-rings under the valve. Never seen the underside of one on an NAA so there may be o-rings and a gasket. You may want to post your question over on the Ford board at ytmag.com. Lot's of expertise on your tractor there.

I don't think you will find any surprises, just o-rings as Rick suggested. The plate is called an Accessory Plate if you are looking for a replacement. However, if you remove the cover, you will probably be able to stop your leak with o-rings.

Disclaimer: I do not have an illustration that shows the loader accessory plate like you have. My diagrams just show the standard accessory plate blank, so use caution when removing the plate.

Thanks Jim:

Can you send me or post the diagram of the regular accessory plate? Looking at this one I'm not sure which bolts to remove? The two that have nuts on threaded rods may have something attached on the inside?

Thanks
Glenn

Glenn,

Jim is right the correct term for the part w/o the valve is accessory plate. I've been rebuilding the lift cover on my 4400 and lift cover on the brain. You can access the diagram on the web through New Holland. Here is a link.

https://webparts.pvassociates.net/cnh/webparts/main.php

Just type NAA in the model search box and select the correct diagram from the list.

Hi Rick:

Thanks for the info but the link didn't work?

I would like to just replace the valve with the proper part since the tractor won't have a loader again. I will also need the gasket, I guess I can just order this from the dealer?

Thanks in advance.

Glenn, I'm sorry to say that my scanner is temporarily out of service, but Rick gave you much better advice. His link didn't work for me, but the New Holland website at New Holland has the parts diagram you need. Click on Parts and Service in the menu and then type in NAA in the search box. Also, there are many suppliers of Ford NAA parts including the gasket sets with o-rings for your lift cover - YTMag .

There are five bolts holding the accessory plate. You will have to remove all 5 to get your accessory plate off. Three of them with the nuts are for the accessory plate only. The two hex-head bolts not only hold the accessory plate on, but they also go through the lift cover. The lift cover, itself, has about a dozen bolts holding it to the top of the hydraulic reservoir.

BTW: Have you tried just tightening the nut on the bolt slightly to see if the leak goes away?

Yep.. just orings under there...

If it was me.. I'd reseal and use the valve as a remote... it's a selector valve style.. but with it you could run a cheap DA logsplitter valve and have DA hyds.. and just plumb the return line to the tank sump by drilling and tapping the hyds sump bung with a hose barb fitting...

remote valves for the NAA top cover are a bit rare.. and thus worth $$.. even that limited selector valve style..

If you do decide to repalce it with the accy cover.. i think I know where one is.

The MPC catalog will show this in detail..e tc.

I think I'll just take it apart and re-seal it. I will likely need a new gasket, are they hard to find?

Gasket.. yep.. impossible to find.. cuz it's orings.. etc.
