So I pulled the side cover off today, and, with it running and the quadrant pulled up, it is pouring fluid somewhere up in the "passenger" side of the tractor near the top cover. I think it may be from the relief valve area. What is the correct method of removing that valve? Call me a dummy, but I don't see how it can screw in and out of the tractor case. I think that it just isn't touching the hydraulic valve, and that's where the problem may be coming from. Is that a possibility? When I have taken the lift cover off before, I've taken off the acorn nut and that's it. I've read about backing it out, but I've not gotten mine to do that. If I could just screw it in towards the valve more and seal it up, it might work?

relief valve is located at the bottom of the center case .. literally base of the case..

So, what is under the acorn nut? I thought that was the pressure relief valve.

backpresure vlve. it needs to be backed out to prevent damge to it before you pull the top cover.

ie.. remove acorn nut then back off the BP valve.

damage CAN occur if you do not do this.

Okay, so I think I finally found my problem. I had a really slow week at the shop so I was able to take a solid block of time to tear the Jubilee top apart again.

With it running I pinpointed the fluid leak coming from area at the gap between the lift cover and the tractor case. I initially thought it was from the backpressure valve, but after I tightened it up it made no difference.

-on a side note, I also figured out how it works- that you turn the threaded section from the outside of the case and the pickup tube turns ON it on the inside. Mine has been seized all this time, so if I turned the threaded housing on the outside, the pickup tube would swing back and forth a little, but would make contact with all the innards of the case, so it wouldn't actually make a full rotation. Despite my worry of breaking a part I couldn't replace, I had to just give it the beans before it broke loose and turned.-

So, anyhow- I took the cover off, cleaned out the big tube that goes from the bottom of the hyd case to the valve body on the cover, thinking it was clogged or something. It wasn't. I had a LOT of white foam from around that general area, like there was a lot of pressure squeezing fluid out of somewhere. Upon a MUCH closer investigation, I saw what looked like a section of blue gasket missing from in between the lower half of the valve body and the lift cover. I took it off, and sure enough, about a .5" piece of the gasket has blown out. I'm pretty sure this is my problem with the whole thing, and it makes sense as to why it worked great one second and then didn't work at all. Hopefully the local Tractor Supply has one on the shelf so I can get this thing back out into the field this afternoon.

Interesting... On a side note, the "hundred" series does not have a gasket like this.

witht he loose backpressure valve.. that ws a problem. unloader needs backpressure to stay alive...

Sean, morning...... Back in my racing days, when we had a gasket that liked to slip, we took a center punch and very lightly would punch the area about every 1/16" to make slightly raised/dimpled marks in the casting... not deep enough to cause any damage but just enough to secure the gaskets from slipping under pressure.... kind of like a miniature knurling effect...
Now.... I would only attempt that maneuver after checking the mating surfaces using a machinists straight edge and a feeler gauge to see if either surface was worn or warped.... the surface could have been abraded/eroded from the flow of hydraulic fluid under pressure....
In the picture you took, the hole and gasket in the upper center of the frame... It appears some of the gasket is missing also...

i would not get a center punch anywhere near any naa parts. they are rare and NLA. if he buggers it.. he's buyin another tractor to repalce that part...

Yep, that was it. $6 roll of gasket material from the parts store and I had it back together with 1700 lbs of pressure. SOO nice to have a working lift again! Thanks guys,
