NAPA tractor filters on sale next week! Feb 28-Ma

I believe there was a post awhile back on where to buy oil filters other than the self important overpriced JD dealer... well NAPA auto parts here is having a tractor filter sale next week and I for one intend to find out if they can sell me an engine oil filter for less than JD....

Hey,
I sold NAPA (or Wic) filters in a past life. Wic manufacting/apptication practices include,if the filter threads onto your equipment the oil will be filtered.regardless of any micron specs. set by the equipment manufacturer. The one filter fits all logic.
One of my customer had several failures due to the fact the Wic/NAPA filter listed for his equipment would not filter the oil to the Cat. specs. required for his engine and trans. Ouch! I recommend to find a Truck parts dealer that handles Baldwin filters. Good luck!

I dunno. I can't understand the logic of paying umpteen thousand dollars for a new machine and then squabbling over a few bucks for a filter. I don't intend to ever put anything in or on my John Deeres that didn't come from John Deere.

Your oil is your engine's life blood. Why take a chance on an unknown third party? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

A $5 filter has always been good enough for my cars, why pay JD's ridiculous prices? I suppose that if I can't afford the JD parts prices I shouldn't have bought a JD? Party pooper.

John Deere is not in the business of making filters. They have other people make them. They have outside suppliers like Champion Labs, Wix(NAPA), Fram, Hastings, Donaldson, and a host of import companies build them and paint them green. You are buying a name, period. If you feel comfortable paying for the JD version, by all means...do it. Most of us on the outside, who need to cut costs, will go elsewhere. I have had great success selling and using Fram filters for twenty years, with only one problem in that time. That was on a Dodge Daytona Turbo, and Fram paid for the new motor. It's all about relationship, comfort level, price, availability, etc. I use only Fram filters and all my equipment gets Amsoil grease, oil, and lubricants. Period. I have never had a breakage due to that practice. Suits me. Maybe not others.

This argument falls into the "You do you your thing and I'll do mine" category (thanks, MG! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif). I stick with JD stuff for everything - just like I go to my GMC dealer for all of my work. If I have any problems, I know they'll deal with it and there isn't any issue - even if I sometimes pay a bit more for the same product. As another wiseman once said, "your mileage may vary" so do as you will but don't complain when something goes wrong and the dealer looks at you cross-wise. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Perhaps, but I have learned from experience that there will be allot less finger-pointing if you stay with name brand parts. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I've always thought the FRAM stuff was well below average quality. This opinion is based on experience from probably 15-20 years ago.

You could take a FRAM air filter and just upon visual inspection it was obviously inferior to the other brands that I had at hand to compare it with.

Have they changed their manufacturing over the years ?
They may be the best on the market now,,, but they sure weren't back in the 80's...

If they are still built to the same low standards I wouldn't put one of their filters on my bicycle....

Their APPARENT air filter quality was so inferior I would have never considered using one of their oil filters...

I will also toss this in,,,
The FRAM filters I was comparing with were purchased at a discount store like Wal Mart... Maybe fram has/had an economy line for these discount places... Anybody know ??

I'm not bashing FRAM,,, just stating my experience,,, If they are decent these days they might just be an option.

Personally,,, I'm gonna buy from my dealer..
Part of keeping a relationship with your dealer anyhow...
That is of course just my opinion also.

If you wanna support the companies that send you jobs overseas....... OK OK I'm not even gonna get started !!!!!

I might use them on something other than my tractor....

I wouldn't be surprised if FRAM doesn't build JD filters,,, but even if they do - they are built to the specs that Deere as put forth..... and I guess I trust deere to verify the quality from whoever manufactures for them...
