Thanks for your replies. Believe you me, I am very apprehensive about the dealers not getting back with me. I just don't understand it.

I am worried about the Montana (it is a great tractor, but the dealers are dropping like flies). I just talked to the nearest Montana dealer, which is 100 miles away because the local one is no longer Montana. The 100 miles one is also no longer a Montana dealer. He is now an LS dealer and gave me a good price on a LS 4020. This is the same tractor as Montana R4944. What is up with Montana??? The LS website doesn't have a dealer search, so I can't find one near me.

Snead Tractor LLC,
I just replied to your PM.

Thanks for taking the time to talk with me, if we can help you let us know.

Before I bought my Mahindra 3215, I was very close to purchasing an R4944 gear model. They look to be a very good tractor and as you said, they come standard with a lot of stuff that the other guys charge extra for. I had a price of about 22K and that was with a canopy and 3 rear remotes. Due to some other factors that came up, I decided to go with the Mahindra in a smaller size than I had been looking at.

If you are a DIY type of guy, I would not hesitate to get a Montana made by LS. I had looked at Kioti CK35 tractors also, they are very good also, but in the end it just worked out best for me to go with the Mahindra. If you expect a lot from a dealer, it sounds like you might be better off to go with the Kubota.

Just my opinion

You never know if you will have a warranty issue so service after the sell is a very important item to consider.
Its more than just the local dealer, and I can tell you that Kubota where I live took very good care of me.

There is a lot going on with Montana Tractors. LS had been supplying Montana with their tractors. Not sure where the relationship is. According to some reports, Montana purchased the Branson Manufacturing facility. Stay tuned.

Lot's going on and more will be going on I suspect.

But just to clarify, Montana did not buy any part of Branson or Kukje (parent company in Korea), they are simply buying tractors from Kukje now to be sold as Montana's. Branson will still sell as Branson as well. Not too unusual in the tractor world.

Thanks for all of the replies. I am a DIYer and can fix engines, weld, etc., but why do all of that if the tractor is still under warranty. I still like the Kioti, but I am leaning more toward the Kubota. The Kubota dealers have been super helpful and very responsive.

I am also interested in Montana but am concerned that, with the change in supplier, the LS Montanas will become orphan machine with parts and service a problem. Is that a legitimate worry?

Just my opinion, the Montana tractors are good tractors, but their dealer network is not.:( You get a lot of machine for what you pay and it is a good machine. If someone buys a Montana, and has to get a tractor part sometime during their ownership, they should count on having to use some other dealer that sells LS tractors, being LS, Landini, McCormic etc. :(

Lots of good suggestions in the thread from some very experienced folks. In my opinion, it really is a multi factor process to consider. I take the approach of hope for the best and plan for the worst. In other words, run some un-thinkables through your head. Suppose you really like tractor A and the price, but there are others that are close, and suppose after the sale you have one or more problems, including a couple of serious ones. Run those what ifs by your dealer and see how they would handle it. Service, parts, down time, longevity of the dealership. It really is a multi demensionsal decision if you want it to be, and I suggest it should be. Don't get blinded by the thoughts of a new tractor and thinking none of those bad things you read about won't happen to you. I have Mahindra, New Holland, International, TYM, and have owned other bands in the past. They all will have problems sooner or later. Don't assume anything, ask.
Good luck.

I think this pretty much answers your question. While each brand has it's pros and cons, the number one, most important thing to remember when buying a tractor is the dealer who supports it. Fixing it yourself is usually pretty simple, but not always. Getting the parts, and having a dealer who will pring out information and spend some time talking to you about your problems is priceless. Of my three tractors, two of my dealers will spend all the time I need in helping me figure out what's wrong. The other will to, but he's always rushed, answering phones and kind of scatter brained. While he's a nice guy and has some great prices, it's a challege to work with him. Fortunately, Kubota also carries the stuff and is now where I go for those parts.

I don't own anything Kubota, but have really come to appreciate their profesionalism. When they order something, it's actually ordered. Laugh if you will, but in my experience, things get ordered all the time, but week after week, nothing arrives. With Kubota, it's here when it's supposed to be here. And the minute it gets here, I get a phone call.

My other two dealers are also very profesional, but not at the level of the Kubota dealer. While I can't speak for any other Kubota dealer, from what I've picked up over the years is that this is how most of the operate.

Forget brand name, and ask yourself who is the best dealer. It really is that simple.

Hey CFDE, (that's along screen name!)

I got a DK40SE HST with FEL and 96" rear blade for 19.5k about 4-5 months ago and it's been fantastic. So I would say my opnion is a bit biased.

I looked at the Kubotoa's and they are nice tractors as well.. but the one thing that made we shy away from them was the placement of the FEL control lever. I did not like it mounted to the FEL directly.. I like how Kioti has the lever right next to my right hand. I know it seems like a little thing, but when you are having to lean foward all day reaching for the lever it could become a problem. I don't know for sure, but I would guess Kubota has an option for next to the seat FEL lever?

Phill

That's an interesting take on the FEL controls, I went from an old Kubota with controls up ont eh loader frame, to a new Bobcat CT with the FEL control right up close to the right hip, I actually prefered the controls up away from me, as I find myself bumping the FEL lever with my knee, hip, or elbow as I'm driving my load (or empty) from point A to point B. Just saying so that the OP can see both sides....
