Narrower bucket for backhoe

I have a FNH 1530 with a Ford backhoe attachment. It has a 12" wide bucket. Can I get a narrower bucket for it? I just want to dig some drainage trenches but don't need to tear the ground that much.

What type of ground are you digging in? Apparently if you have clay it wants to stick it the smaller buckets. My neighbor down the road has had a large excavator in digging an irrigation pond this week and it is in clay, even with a 36 inch bucket he is having problems with clay sticking in the bucket. Hope this helps.

Agree with Mousefield, the narrow bucket will not allow for materials to fall out esp if wet or clay type soil, the other point about drainage is that most of the time you would want to backfill 2-3" of stone the install 4" perforated drain tile then some more stone then cover.

A 12" wide trench would not be too big IMO for proper draining of soils. I have seen narrow buckets 10" but the cost $200+ range I presume so not cheap. I dont think there is a huge difference in an 8-10-12" bucket to justify the cost. Now if you get a 6" but I have never seen that small of a bucket.

Then there is the Brotek Ripper Bro-Tek: Tractor Add Ons attachment that you might look at or have Richard @ Brotek modify with some side plates to form more of a V might be an option - it also looks like a neat tool for stumps and disloding rocks.

I guess were nearly neighbors.

Any bucket smaller than 12" can be a real pain to empty.

I have a 6" bucket, unless the ground is very very dry, I usually rent a trencher to put in tile.

It's 10 times faster, and your left with nice soft soil for back fill.

Skip at LaGrange Hardware rents them for a fair price.
