Hello from Southern Ontario. How did the rest of you fare today? When I got up this morning we had about 5 cm. of rather wet snow and it was till snowing, or more accurately raining ice pellets. So for the second time this winter I got to use my snowblower. Got the driveway cleared and went off to work. During the day it warmed up a bit and the snow turned to rain. When I got home there was about 5 cm. of soggy wet slush on the driveway. So back out with the snowblower again. It was so wet that the blower could only throw the stuff about 10-15 metres. I got most of it off but when it is that wet I find it rather difficult to clear so there is still some slush on the driveway. It was so wet that so much snow clung to the body of the snowblower that it became too heavy for the hydraulics to lift. It is supposed to go down to about zero C tonight and then up to about 5C tomorrow so hopefully most of it will melt and run off, but in the meantime it is a mess.

We're still hovering right around freezing with light mist in the air. The roads are just getting "crunchy" and there is a good 1/4-1/2 inch of ice on everything. Branches and power lines down everywhere. Oh yeah, this is on top of yesterday's 4 inches of snow. It's real pretty out, but this is bound to be an expensive storm with all the damage. Supposed to continue with the freezing rain all night and into tomorrow. Can't hardly wait to scrape my windshield in the morning! Maybe my tractor should sit out tonight so I can put my truck in the garage... nah /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Rob,Take a small space heater and set it on low and leave it in the truck over night . The car will be ice free in the morning and you will be able to open the doors!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Weather report at 1500' just outside of Stowe, Vermont. The skiers will be happy as long as they don't park in the ditches! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif By the stake in the meadow we got 14" of very dry powder since it started late morning yesterday. Still coming down in the form of BB-sized ice pellets. Supposed to shift briefly to rain in the valleys, but am hoping at our elevation it continues to snow. Just in case, when I plow this morning I'll leave a couple of inches behind to sop up any wet stuff. Rain hitting the frozen ground is ugly stuff! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Temp is holding at 20F.

Von, that's an interesting idea I may have to consider. Fortunately, I didn't need it this morning. Temp was 35 and most of the ice has already melted off the trees and power lines.

We're supposed to get about an inch of snow today /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif At least the ice will be good for hockey tonight /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Rob,

Vons idea works quite well. I used to do it in the bad old days when I was younger and didn't have a garage /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif. I am sure its not neccesary to mention, but just be real careful about placing the heater on a suitable, heat proof surface and make sure the heat output is not close enough to anything it could damage or melt or worse /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Or put it on an X10 appliance module for 15 minutes before you leave /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif. (I couldn't resist, I'm an X10 freak)

Its 66F here in southern Maryland, the sun is shining, there's a nice breeze blowing and I can hear a tractor calling my name.
