Re: Neal\'s Root Rake Grapple
Hi Wayne,
I would be glad to share any info I can, or take pictures of any area you would like. If you can make drawings for me to measure & fill in, would be great.
As mentioned before, I built this one to fit on an existing tool bar I had made with a quick attach for my tractor. Although it has worked flawlessly, it gave me concerns during construction about the strength of the outer edges. If I had it to do over, I think I would not take that shortcut and build the full width frame out of square tube. This might be even more important on your 90 HP tractor.
Some parts, I am not sure how I would give measurements in detail, like the shape of the grapple. I layed a piece of cardboard on the table, marked the hinge & bottom points, and made a freehand arc. When I was happy with what I saw, I then cut it out, held it up to the root rake and played like a hydraulic cylinder was moving it, then used it for a pattern to cut steel by.
One point that I like is, the teeth bypassing one another a fair amount. This allows you to not drop anything, once picked up.
I have not done a lot of pasture clearing, mostly removing grown up fence lines. I built a pasture renovator years ago and my small tractor would not pull it as deep as I wanted, then got a larger tractor & folded it up. I think 3 point sub soilers are fairly inexpensive. I wonder if they could handle that job?
