HCJtractor,

Sure here are a few more. I had found some thin material that is uncommon in Limestone. The moon and Ying Yang were carved, then dipped in acid, finally grinding the high areas smooth. Gave the moon some "craters". While in China last summer I saw a lot of Bamboo so that made me think to give it a try. I'm Irish background, so the Irish Knot was fun.

Working on a new concept of carving very thin sheets and adding a stone frame later. It saves a bunch of time cutting the inset and allows the use of a jigsaw with a stone blade. While at the quarry last week, I found some super thin slices, they were unbelievably thin, some 1/4" by 14 in by 96 " long. I want to try to made a boarder like mat board frame to shadow box it.

Here is a Chain and a Turtle I did a while back. The chain has links 6" by 9", carved from a 6" x 6" x 30" block

You have a gift. Those are pieces of art! I would love to have the chains, the only thing missing is the ball.

Riptides, thank you. It's really not that difficult. Just a lot patience! The chain I've done in wood as well, the grain actually makes it more difficult. To make a chain; if you start with a 6 x 6 x length
1 Set saw depth to 2"
2 cut 2" in on each corner. the 4 Corner pc will fall out
3 this leaves a cross shape
4 draw chain links, alternating. Make sure "slope" is left where links would normally touch while under tension. This gives room to drill
5 3/4" drill hole at exactly center and at 45 deg
6 bunch of small holes to free the links

The photo is just the rough shape, but you can see end profile where first step to the cross

Great work!!!

In southwest Missouri we have the Carthage marble mine. https://www.facebook.com/locarnimarbleco

Marble from here was used to build the State capitol in Jefferson City.

I have NO idea if they have a scrap yard, or allow people to rummage, but give them a call!
