Nearly lost another cat

A fisher cat is sort of a smaller sized badger/wolverine. Mean and nasty. That's the animal that killed our beloved Microsoft Cat a couple years ago...then fell to my Marlin .35 before he made his getaway. Nasty creature.

They have thier place in the food chain and are a good indicator species of a healthy ecosystem. Unfortunately for those of us with cats and such, our pets are a bit lower on the ladder of the food chain.

It's been mighty dry here this summer so I expect some unusual activity. Last night we had a sharp-shinned hawk sitting in the tree across the driveway giving the cats a close look. One of our cats is fearless and would take him on no matter what but he flew off shortly after.

Glad to hear Nasdaq is OK.

We have 4 cats who are indoor/outdoor. Usually they are pretty good about checking in once a day for food but we lost one for 6 days recently (found her lounging around in a briar patch across the street; scars still healing from climbing in to get her) and one for good last year.

Our black cat got mauled recently; the vet thinks it was a car but I have been shooting any coons or coyotes I see just in case. There are lots of both around here and I can hear the coyotes howling at night.

They say Great Horned Owls will eat cats also so be on the lookout for them too.

Hope your cat recovers. I keep a bolt action 410 with a halogen flashlight taped to the barrel next to my door. Since my dog died, all I have is the cat to keep us varmin free and he does a decent job of it. I am concerned about him, he stays out all night this time of year and is at the door before first light ready to eat and go back at it again. Too many coyotes and such running around here so I help him out as best I can with the buckshot!
