I just went to the website (CCradio.com) and checked it out. It is not cheap. They have a lot of pretty interesting stuff, but the radio in question is AM-FM-SW, runs on house current, solar cells, or NiMH batteries. It has an LED light built in, too.

The windup is a dynamo arrangement such that roughly 30 seconds of winding gives you about an hour of listening by charging the batteries. It's intended as a power outage/survival type of unit, is fairly large, and costs about $100. They have other stuff which might appeal to the independent streak many of us here have, but nothing that I say was directly tractor related. I sent for the free catalog.

On the radios...I use the type built into the ear muffs...work ok but a little more clumbsy to wear (they are slightly larger and heavier.) Bad thing however, mowing around the grain bins...it changes stations by itself.
On the CCRadio....I have several of their products. The older wind up (FreePlay) radio without the light. Was about $100. Works ok but reciever is so so....not real selective, but ok on nearby stations. The actual CCRadio and CCRadioPlus are top of the line stuff built by Sangean. I have several myself and have given several away for gifts. After many many many hours of use...the only problem I have ever had was that the LCD display went bonkers. Radio kept working, but you can't see what station you are on and the clock numbers are garbled. The company will fix it for $50. The radios cost $165 dollars now. I paid about $100 each for them when I got them. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What kind of cigars? I prefer maduros, such as Andros, Sonador, and Romeo Y Julieta. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Fwiw.. haveing used different style radio's while mowing. I have had best luck with pll digital tuners, as compaired to manual 'dial' style tuners, concerning staying locked onto a station.

Soundguy -- what do you use for an emergency radio? Car, battery powered, anything? I'm tempted by the C.Crane unit with AM, FM, and SW, but only because the survivalist in me thinks that kind of stuff is good to have, along with a good gun or two and plenty of ammo and food. Closest I've ever come to needing anything like it was during the ice storm we had in January '05 or the blizzard in '77. Power was out about a day in either case, no biggie. I heat with wood at this place and the biggest headache in '05 was lack of electicity for the water pump.

I have a 2" color lcd tv that also rec'vs fm and am radio.. runs on 4 aa batteries. Gets radio recep good.. only pulls 'local' channels on the tv like 2 6 9 20 on vhf, pluf 35 and 51 65 on uhf.

During the hurricanes in florida last 2 years, we relied on that to get local news broadcasts and weather updates. Turned it on about every 4 hours to get an updats. most of the news channels kep continous feed weather on.
