Need a 5\' Rear Blade - Reccomendations??

I need a 5' rear blade for pushing snow. I would like to get a nice quality one and would love to have features that lend it to driveway plowing. Spring loaded tilt kickout? Rubber/plastic mold board? slide shoes? I really don't know. What is available? Perhaps none of these features. I looked at a rhino, but it looked pretty much like a steel plow. More for dirt perhaps?

I dunno,... ye speak and I shall listen (read).

Thanks all!

You'll probably get a zillion suggestions so I'll just get mine in now. After shopping blades for a while and choking on what they cost, I ended up buying it from Southern States (are they all over or just in the south?) Anyway, for the money it is a very high quality blade with three way angle adjustments. It's built very well at less than half the cost of a "top notch" blade. Later, I ordered a synthetic "blade" to replace the steel cutting edge so I don't damage my black top driveway.

Re: Need a 5\' Rear Blade - Reccomendations??

well, I've been wondering myself about the same thing. Problem is, with my BX2200, I find that I have to be careful to not buy just any back blade, but one that is "low" enough so that when I raise it, I'll be able to get it high enough so I can then lower it to drag snow. (Clear as mud?) I have a Woods Estate series landscape rake that works pretty well, so I think I'll check into the Woods Estate series back blade.
Anybody out there have experience with a BX2200, snow, and a back blade? If so, help us all with your insights.

I have a Midwest Blade, sold through Corrihers under their brand name. The blade is able to angle, tilt and offset. It is very heavily built and the adjustments to angle, tilt and offset do NOT require tools. I don't know if they offer a rubber/plastic edge, it came standard with a replaceable metal edge. I looked at a lot of blades and I think I bought the best (don't we all) at a great price too.

If you have a Mill's Fleet Farm there they have a 6' kingkutter blade for $165, 7 footer is $180... hard to beat that price. Not sure about a 5 footer.

What's your budget?

If primary purpose is snow removal, a front blade is the way to go. Or front/rear blower.

The kubota blade is probably $1,000 +/-

A rear blade can be had for less - and you've gotten good recommendations as to which ones, but they don't come with spring trip. I've got a Landpride. Works OK, but it is a literal pain in the neck to plow backwards. I'm working on making a front blade for my TC18, got the plow, cylinders & the steel, need to entice my buddy over to weld it all together for me

If you can afford it, get the right tool for the job

I have that Woods Estate 5' back blade (and the rake) and it seems to lift pretty high. I honestly didn't get much chance to use it last winter because I got it in mid March but it did clear a couple of 1-3" inch storms fairly efficiently. Here's a picture of it in (I believe) the full up position.

Re: Need a 5\' Rear Blade - Reccomendations??

Having used some full sized Cat.I implements on my BX, I would heartlily recommend the Estate series or the Kingkutter XB series of implements. I have ran into the same lift height problems that have been commented on. When you level the implement , you quickly run out of lift clearance. I have a landscape rake for sale because of that.

I would second Bob's recommendation. I also have a Midwest/Corriher 6 way 5' blade.
