With the economy being in the condition it's in, I suggest looking
online for lawn care operators going out of business.

You'll find some good deals out there.

Several years ago I bought a Stihl FS-110 for $150.

It's a real beast but around the farm here it's quite the necessity.

The line itself is thicker than residential trimmers.

I think I bought a 3# spool of .125 for $12 on eBay several
years ago.

To the op, I too have a 128ldx (split boom) and I think you will be quite happy. I run the piss out of my trimmers and the 128 has a nice torquey engine and Husq durability. I run the tiller attachment often and it has more than enough to get the job done and will last you a lifetime with reg maint.

i've had several name brands over the years..bought an echo and so far i am more than pleased with it and what it can do...

Stihl FS250R here.

In the islands where Guinea grass grows year round and 4" a day with rain, it's Stihl or nothing.

I also have a Kombi Tool with the 12" chain saw and hedge clipper attachments.

The Kombi and the lighter trimmers are the new "sorta 4 stroke" engines and are fine for that use. For the 250 though, the power remains hi rev and quick to get there 2 stroke all the way.

They use FS250s here to cut the roadsides and those trimmers work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for years and keep running with maintenance and part replacement.

Last I looked, a 250 was the better part of $800 down here so for occasional, light duty work, you could get by with a lighter duty Stihl or one of the other descent brands mentioned but most if not all of the chain store stuff is junk.
