OK, I guess I've lurked on ya'll enough. Been looking at Yanmar's for a bit and listening to your words of wisdom. I'm going to an auction tomorrow that has a few Yanmar's in it. I already went and looked at the tractors, all of which seemed to run fine. Most of them looked practically new. One of the one's I was looking at was a 1300 FD. I've seen posts on the 1300D but haven't found anything on the 1300FD, not sure what the difference is. I know this is short notice but I didn't find out about the auction till this mornin'. If anybody knows the difference between the 1300D and the 1300FD I'd really appreciate it. I'm including a link to a picture of the tractors on the auctioneers website. TIA

PS. I promise I'll let you know if I get one.

I saw the 1300FD in the photo. The reason you can't find anything on a 1300FD is that there is no such thing. There is a 1300D but Yanmar never labeled one with FD. Be careful of the auctions with large numbers of Yanmars. I heard of an outfit in Georgia that brings in some Yanmars that have been spruced up in Vietnam. They all look great but I have HEARD about some problems with them. Again so nobody flames me, I say I have heard but not personally experienced it. I can't remember the name of the company but they used to have their name painted on the front bumpers, it was something International.

I would be hesitant to bid on a tractor at an auction if the tractor has fresh paint or is not properly decaled. This tractor is no doubt a YM1300. I have been to an auction in Tenn. where there were several Yanmars and most were painted but the majority were junk. I have bought and sold at auctions sometimes I was lucky others I got stuck. At one sale an Oliver OC4 crawler was sold, It was painted and ran good for the 5 min. it ran. I wanted it so much that I overlooked critical problems. After a major overhaul, new undercarriage, new hydralic pump I had approx 9,000 invested in a crawler worth 4,000.

So, are these tractors just sent from Japan to Viet Nam for a paint job and cleaning or are they sent there, worked to death and then cleaned up and dumped here?

Elcig,
I too went to an auction looking for a Yanmar tractor. It was in Oklahoma. They had all kinds of compact tractors and other equipment. I held back until I saw an F15 that was in good shape by appearances. It went for about $800 less that most of the compacts were being bid on. I had to add the 3 PH brackets and the arms. It came with the tiller with a 2PH. I got a nearby dealer to make and install them. So far it is working out fine with no problems. I bought a brush hog, box blade, and a scoop from the dealer for better prices than I could get from TSC. I agree with the others tho, you need to be sure of what you are winning in the bid. Check the tractor out extensively. Some of the tractors at the auction had lift problems, clutch problems, worn out tires, wouldn't start, etc. I was lucky that I got what I considered the best looking one there. Good luck with your purchase.
